This key position is responsible for managing the implementation of the agencies databases, and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and CAD to CAD interfaces. This position has responsibility for installing, maintaining, and administrating the agency's CAD and GIS databases and related applications interfaces, maintaining, administrating, and supporting the agency's CAD system, messaging/paging, and fire station alerting systems.
A successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a highly resilient 24 x 7 x 365 CAD system as well as provide technical support for Emergency Call Takers, Dispatchers and field-based Law, Fire and Emergency Medical personnel.
Key to this position is the ability to effectively interface with and meet the needs of the agency's user community (Law, Fire and Emergency Medical). This position responds to trouble calls, monitors alarms, collects data/information, analyzes and reports status and trends. Using this analysis and reports, the Database Administrator works with the senior technical staff, and management, as appropriate, to propose and implement improvements and or corrective actions.
The Database Administrator is key to the identification and resolution of the CAD system user community performance and reliability. An incumbent in this classification is periodically called upon to provide off-shift on-call technical support to respond to and resolve major malfunctions in the Agency's or Users data systems.

Note - The Agency reserves the right to fill this position at a Database Administrator II or Administrator I level, depending upon applicant's experience. Below is the Database Administrator I salary range.
Database Administrator I Salary Range:
Minimum - $30.00 per hour ($5200 monthly; $62,400 annually)Maximum - $38.92 per hour ($6637 monthly; $79,640 annually)
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Installation and testing changes/upgrades to the CAD application and other operating systems
- Monitors and tests all CAD interface applications to identify operator/system errors and coordinates changes as needed.
- Assists the dispatch floor with CAD equipment or software problems.
- Maintains and updates CAD system database files, CAD tables and Records tables as needed.
- Ensure Agency data retention polices comply with agency procedures and state/federal law.
- Maintain Replication of CAD Databases to user agencies.
- Writes special request reporting programs; designs applications to process CAD statistics; examines data for completeness and validity.
- Performs system maintenance functions (i.e. system backups) and establishes procedures for CAD and agency Databases.
- Provides data and information to WCCCA operations, users, and the public as needed, including incident reports and statistical records.
- Maintain and update documentation of CAD and agency Database systems.
- Develop knowledge of CAD to CAD interface to provide back up support to regional project team.
- Provides training to other staff members as needed.
- Ensure duties and tasks are conducted in accordance with the Agency Safety Program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
A minimum of four years' experience in a computer system environment with a minimum of two years' experience with database file coordination. Previous work experience with Public Safety Agencies and college level training in business administration and computer science preferred; any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the above-described duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of structured query languages, database design, and theories
- Demonstrated knowledge of database management and database replication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of database reporting tools as Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Power BI, and Excel.
- General understanding of the services provided by a communications center to police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS); general understanding of computer application software packages.
- Ability to write database queries.
- Ability to write user interfaces to data mining programs so programs can be used by a variety of employees or users.
- Strong knowledge of network operations and the equipment necessary to have it work properly
- Ability to work within scheduling constraints.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, common sense and emotional intelligence in accomplishing responsibilities and in interactions with others

Physical Demands
Daily focus on a computer screen; daily use of a keyboard; daily operation of office equipment; occasional lifting, moving and carrying of objects up to 50 pounds; sitting for extended periods of time, crouching, bending, kneeling or reaching to perform duties; regular talking and listening to others in person and over the phone and/or radio; continual visual acuity so as to pay close attention to detail in performance of essential functions and in avoiding potential hazards; occasional dealing with distraught or difficult individuals. Although much of the work is conducted in an office environment, support for the 9-1-1 / Dispatch Center will require working under or inside of workstations and or in tight spaces. Occasional overtime and after hours on call work (this position is subject to after-hours, on-call, as part of a rotational pool of staff members). May be required to report after hours for emergencies.

Supervision Received/Exercised
The Database Administrator II works under the supervision of the IT Supervisor. This position does not normally exercise supervision of others.
