We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
This position may offer telework flexibility.
Responsibilities:
  • Develops, reviews and coordinates documents with suppliers, other disciplines, and customers.
  • Coordinates technical issues with Senior engineers.
  • Proficient with basic engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Knowledgeable of major regulations and industry codes and standards applicable to Instrumentation and Controls. Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements in the preparation of Control Systems design products.
  • Responsible for activities such as marking up Piping & Instrument Diagrams and Logic Diagrams for control and instrumentation requirements, developing instrument data sheets, instrument installation detail assignments and/or development, and supporting generation of Material Requisitions.
  • Develop instrument location diagrams and navigate 3D model for interference coordination.
  • Contributes to maintaining the project's instrument database using automated tools and has knowledge of the applicability of information to be populated in the instrument database.
  • Promotes continuous work process improvement. The Engineer shall champion non-proprietary electronic data interchange and integrate automation technology wherever practical
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • May oversee a small team of Control Systems Designers.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Level 1: Associates of Art (AA) or Science (AS) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer, or Engineering Technology with 9 years of related experience; or in lieu of the degree, 15 years related design experience
  • Level 2: Associates of Art (AA) or Science (AS) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer, or Engineering Technology with 13 years of related experience; or in lieu of the degree,19 years related design experience.
  • Must have 1 year of experience in Control Systems Engineering developing documentation for Final Design
  • Candidates possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Familiar with design of nuclear facilities.
  • Familiar with Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities along with effective presentation skills.
  • Experience using Bentley Microstation and Navigator.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio
