Job description

At the Technology Innovation Department (TID), our mission is to apply modern principles of research, design, and technology to make our transit system easy for all riders to use. The MBTA Technology Innovation team is working to transform how people get around the Boston area.
 
We are a team of designers, engineers, product and content specialists charged with bringing novel ideas, modern standards and a user-centered approach to technology at the T. As the MBTA works to reinvent itself, we have a rare opportunity to craft the future of transportation for Boston and communities all around Eastern Massachusetts, as well as pioneer innovations for other transit agencies around the country.

The MBTA is seeking a Senior Application Analyst to be responsible for supporting and managing an Appeon PowerBuilder client-server application that is targeted for retirement in 2024. Responsibilities include resolving end user help desk incidents and security requests, assisting with business process improvements where necessary, performing data analysis, creating and maintaining functional and technical documentation, and performing support activities of custom functionality and processes. The right candidate must possess a strong technical background for PowerBuilder 2017 or above and have experience managing a client-server application with direct end-user interaction.  
Duties and responsibilities:
    • Work with technical and non-technical staff and vendors to triage and resolve Helpdesk application requests (incidents, minor enhancements, and security requests) and technical platform issues. 
    • Research, analyze, develop, and maintain sound application solutions on a custom client-server application on Appeon PowerBuilder 2019 R1 
    • Exercise thorough and comprehensive software development methodologies 
    • Gather and document functional and technical requirements. 
    • Create end user and system documentation to include procedures, specifications, test scripts, user manuals/guides, job aides, and project artifacts.  
    • Manage and escalate system production issues. 
    • Troubleshoot and resolve all issues accurately and efficiently. 
Minimum qualifications:
    • PowerBuilder 2017 R2 or above experience for software development lifecycle management 
    • Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience with application design and data-modeling of client-server applications, integrations, workflow, and report development 
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
    • Work independently or collaboratively with any technical and non-technical staff or vendor 
Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience with Agile/SCRUM methodology.  
    • Experience with technical tools such as Service Now, SQL Server SSIS, Microsoft tools (PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Teams), Beyond Compare, Snag-It, and AQT 
    • Track record for being detail-oriented, strong leadership qualities, and able to handle quick context changes amongst priorities and projects. 
Location:

This role is hybrid. While most activities can be accomplished remotely, a component of this role requires an in-person element. We need this person to be onsite for an average of 1 week per quarter.

Unfortunately, we are unable to hire candidates who would perform their work in California, Connecticut, Washington DC, Hawaii, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Washington, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico.

At this time, we are only able to hire US resident's that are residing in the US at the start of their employment.

Compensation:

Pay rate range is $85 - $105 per hour (W-2), up to 1880 hours per year.

*6 month contract to start
