The Role at a Glance

You will assemble and analyze relevant data to influence actuarial decisions, including pricing and ratesetting, within Annuity Solutions. Working closely with other actuarial teams, you will identify decisions that can be addressed by data analytics, master data from AnnuityHQ and other data systems, design visualizations and other automated output to generate data insights, and apply predictive modeling when applicable to the decision. You will learn about Annuity products and processes and practical data analytics techniques using Dataiku, Tableau, SQL, and Python.

What you'll be doing

  • Collaborate closely with both the data analytics team and an assigned team within Annuity Solutions to understand their processes and decisions and propose how application of data analytics may positively influence decision-making
  • Gather data from established general data sources such as AnnuityHQ using Dataiku and SQL, consulting data experts, dictionaries, and self-designed check to affirm that the data is appropriate and relevant to the decision
  • Establish new data connections and refine existing data sources, through partnership with data experts across the enterprise, to amplify the potential for applying data analytics within Annuity Solutions
  • Wrangle data from one or more sources using Dataiku and Python as needed to produce reliable, automated, and well-documented data sources specific to an actuarial decision that others can confidently use
  • Implement data-gathering processes that harness the potential synergies of similar data needs for varying decisions to increase efficiency of data work without decay of data relevance and reliability
  • Produce effective data visualizations and other dynamic, automated reporting designed to allow efficient data exploration and generate useful data insights using Tableau and other tools that others can confidently use
  • Design coherent sets of recurring visualizations that decision-makers and management regularly use due to their applicability and ability to generate new insights
  • Apply predictive modeling when applicable to decision-making to create trusted, well-maintained predictions on emerging data, including model structure and feature generation based on business context, that others can confidently use
  • Communicate concisely and clearly, through a variety of media, on how the results of data analytics work applies to a specific actuarial decision, engaging in constructive dialogue to influence the decision being made

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

  • 5+ years of actuarial experience with FSA or additional experience with ASA or equivalent
  • Ability to think critically and identify and solve potential challenges
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with demonstrated capability to quickly learn new concepts
  • Experience synthesizing large volumes of data and identifying data anomalies
  • Practical knowledge on what leads to effective data visualizations
  • Experience with predictive analytics
  • Prioritization, time management, and organizational skills
  • Independent, motivated, and collaborative

Nice-to-haves:

  • Prior experience with Dataiku, Tableau, SQL, or Python
  • Annuity product knowledge and general insurance/business knowledge
  • Experience managing technical experts
