  1. Scope and Responsibilities
    • Responsible for implementing and maintaining company food safety programs as well as prerequisite programs in accordance with regulatory and SQF requirements in the production, processing, and packaging of RTE and NRTE meat, poultry, and shellfish products; revise and reassess procedures and policies regarding Food Safety per changes in the manufacturing processes; prepare related reports; and oversee required audits and compliance needs. The SQF Practitioner shall provide the necessary leadership to ensure that the highest standards for food safety and quality are maintained. Reviews and updates existing product specifications and standards, develops and implements various testing and sampling procedures as necessary, prepares related reports, and recommends solutions. Provides the training necessary to create and promote an understanding of food safety and quality standards with company personnel. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  2. General Responsibilities
    • Oversee food safety and sanitation procedures in plant operations
    • Direct the collection and preparation of laboratory samples as requested by regulatory agencies
    • Lead internal and external audits
    • Follow up with facility non conformances
    • Support all QC functions
    • Determine overall plant and product quality by conducting various product and systems tests and evaluating results
    • Educate and instruct plant personnel on recommended quality control testing, equipment sanitation, and general sanitation
    • Work with plant management and personnel to develop better operational procedures to improve overall efficiency, food safety, and compliance
    • Develop, implement, and maintain all HACCP and pre-requisite programs, according to governing agencies guidelines
    • Utilize statistical control programs to ensure plant sanitation and product quality
    • Analyze operational problems to determine corrective action, and seek improvements and through preventative controls
    • Responsible for compilation and maintenance of inspection reports and records
    • Train production personnel in GMP's, food safety, HACCP, and pre-requisite programs
    • Perform microbiological sampling according to HACCP plan: i.e. sample collection, analysis, interpretation, and safety
    • Ensure all plant personnel conform to food Safety and GMPs

  1. Job Requirements:
    • Education and Experience:
      • Bachelor degree in industry-related field-Food Science/Microbiology degree preferred.
      • Five years' work experience in quality assurance is required. Minimum three to five years' experience in quality assurance management in a manufacturing environment.
      • Experience with FDA and USDA compliance a must. Expert on subject matter, including the ability to develop, manage, and train on HACCP program, GMPs, integrated pest management programs, sanitation, chemical control, and product recall, especially SQF.
    • Skills & Qualifications:
      • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
      • Visual, auditory and hand dexterity. Full body mobility. Adequate reading/language, writing and math skills.
      • Able to work in varied temperature environments (0-50 deg.)- COLD ENVIRONMENT
      • Good hand/eye coordination.
      • Heavy lifting required-some over 50lbs.
      • Possesses a working knowledge of sanitation operations; maintains knowledge of current and developing sanitation techniques.
      • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and to write routine reports and correspondence.
      • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational skills.
      • Excellent ability to read and interpret government regulations, safety rules and instructions, policies, and procedural manuals.
      • HACCP certification, Food Safety Certification, PCQI Certification, audit training and familiarity with SQF requirements required
      • Knowledge of SQF program with the ability to achieve SQF Practitioner status
      • Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentially, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment is essential
      • Strong computer skills necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook) - Must be able to maintain organized electronic files
      • Monitor and update where necessary, according to regulatory change
