Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed, general acute care community hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for the 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut. JOB SUMMARY
Performs all Sterile Processing Services duties independently and at an advanced level including decontamination, instrument assembly, packaging, sterilization, and case cart assembly. Demonstrates knowledge of and fulfills all processing and documentation requirements to ensure the efficient distribution of high quality sterile products that meet customer expectations. Maintains and demonstrates an advanced knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, utilization, and sterile processing. Works in collaboration with peri-operative services to provide appropriate surgical instrumentation. Functions as the SPS training resource for new staff members and validating their skill levels. Participates in quality safety council meetings. Functions as the Shift Lead when needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience
Experience
- 5+ years of SPS experience
Licensure, Certification, Registration
- Current "Sterile Processing Distribution Technician Certification" from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Inc.(CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from IAHCSMM required.
- Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) from CBSPD or Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) from IAHCSMM required.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English required.

- 7 years of experience
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Must obtain a minimum of 10 CEU’s (continuous education units) per year.
- Working knowledge of SPM, EPIC, and Microsoft Office
