WHAT WOULD I BE DOING AT THIS JOB?
We are seeking a orthodontist to work full time (40 hours weekly Monday-Friday) in the dental department of our community health clinic. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and skills in orthodontia and will be able to work out of both our Santa Barbara location and our Carpinteria location.
Under the general direction and supervision of the Chief Dental Officer, this position provides comprehensive coordinated preventive dental services to an ethnically diverse patient populations across the lifespan. The orthodontist is a strong leader who treats all staff with respect and supports teamwork and a positive work environment.
The orthodontist examines and treats members of family, regardless of age or sex; ensures proper dental care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Specifically, the role of the Orthodontist includes:
- Examines, diagnoses, and treats facial and dental irregularities and growth related malocclusions as well as tooth-size jaw-size discrepancies
- Examines teeth, gums and related tissues to define condition, using dental instruments, x ray and other diagnostic equipment related to orthodontic treatment
- Diagnoses malocclusion conditions and plans treatment not restricted to comprehensive orthodontic treatment, limited orthodontic treatment, interceptive orthodontic treatment, surgical orthodontics, and or restorative segmental orthodontics in conjunction with general dentists.
- Designs and delivers fixed and bilateral appliances to modify oral habits that could decrease the severity of developing malocclusions
- Supervises retention stage to emphasize maintenance of corrected teeth

WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?
1. Completion of ADA accredited dental program required.
2. Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).
3. Active California dental license.
4. Formal orthodontic training with certification from an accredited graduate program.
