Vacancies may include both full and part time, continuing and non-continuing contract positions for the 2024-2025 school year. Full time positions are 7.75 hours per day. In addition, Occupational Therapists receive a yearly stipend of up to $1,000 plus a supplemental contract for 5 additional days.
Minimum Requirements: Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate as a School Occupational Therapist and Valid Washington State Occupational Therapist License.

JOB TITLE: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
JOB SUMMARY:Provide occupational therapy and related evaluations for students as determined by the evaluation and IEP team.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Organize, plan and implement a program of evaluation or treatment of students with fine motor and/or sensory needs that adversely affect their educational progress.
  • Plan appropriate treatment programs and develop and maintain materials necessary for implementation of this program.
  • Conduct a therapy program which aids the individual to receive a free, appropriate public educational program as described in the student's IEP.
  • Maintain records, submit reports and evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
  • Engage in continuing education studies which ensures continuous professional growth and participate in providing in-service education for school staff.
  • Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction based upon individual student IEP goals using state standards, and subject matter content.
  • Recognize individual student learning and cultural needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Recognize individual student cultural needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual success.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement and meeting special education laws and policies.
  • Participate in and facilitate various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies.
  • Engage in continuing education studies which insures professional growth.
  • Maintain and process accurate records/documents as required by state and federal regulations and district policy.
  • Direct the work of assigned classified staff.
  • Fulfill legal responsibilities, implement, and comply with federal and state laws, district policies and other guiding principles, and State Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Perform other duties of similar scope and function.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.

JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
  • Knowledge and skill in designing and conducting specialized instruction, remediation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to each child, taking into consideration individual background and characteristics, including cultural diversity, English language learners, and special education students.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and ability to effectively meet developmental needs of students.
  • Ability to address culturally responsive needs of children and families.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate student progress and achievement.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices, including cultural responsiveness.
  • Demonstrated competent knowledge and skill in designing and conducting specialized instruction, remediation, and evaluation.
  • Ability to adapt and modify techniques and materials for effectiveness.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate positively and effectively with parents, students, staff and administrators.
  • Ability to build an environment of trust, teamwork and effective communication.
  • Skills and ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with diverse people, including racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competencies.
  • Ability to identify and address personal, cultural, and institutional bias.
  • Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to operate technology devices and specific software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability and commitment to strengthen job-related competencies.

EDUCATION:
  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate as a School Occupational Therapist.
  • Valid Washington State licensure.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Successful and recent experience as an Occupational Therapist in a school setting.
  • Student cultural and economic diversity experience.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds, preferred.
