Summary:
As an Occupational Therapist (OT) in a nursing home, you will play a vital role in helping residents regain and maintain their independence and improve their quality of life. You will work with a diverse population facing various physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges, designing and implementing individualized therapy programs to help them achieve their functional goals. Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess residents' functional abilities, needs, and goals.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
Utilize therapeutic interventions including exercises, adaptive equipment training, and cognitive-behavioral strategies to improve strength, coordination, and cognitive function.
Educate and train residents and caregivers on safe and effective performance of ADLs and injury prevention techniques.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and optimize resident outcomes.
Document progress, measure treatment effectiveness, and make adjustments to plans as needed.
Stay up-to-date on best practices in occupational therapy and geriatric care.
Advocate for residents' needs and rights, promoting their independence and participation in meaningful activities.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
Licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT)
Strong clinical skills and experience in geriatric care settings
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Compassion, empathy, and a patient-centered approach
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent documentation skills
Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems
