Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will be part of the Data Center Operations team within the Global Infrastructure Services organization. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the physical and logistical layout of resources and equipment within our enterprise Data Center facilities, delivering regional support of enterprise Data Center operations and physical infrastructure within Amgen's Thousand Oaks campus. The Specialist IS Engineer will report to the Principal IS Analyst and will be based out of Thousand Oaks, California.
The Data Center Engineer role has sophisticated responsibilities including managing cable pathways, space, power, and cooling requirements. They fulfill a meaningful role in Data Center capacity planning and must also manage business continuity and disaster recovery plans. The Engineer role will provide regional oversight of the team within our Thousand Oaks campus. Data Center Operations is the enterprise group that handles the physical hosting infrastructure and provides support to private and public cloud hosting options, compute, storage, hyper-converged, and backup systems. The Engineer provides operational oversight of critically important infrastructure and security that requires 24x7 uptime and meets compliance requirements.
- Provides guidance to the Service Owner, IS Architects, full-time employees, and third-party service providers on the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of regional operations
- Ensures service is aligned with the key principles of service ownership which include meeting the needs of the business, cost-effectiveness, scalability, compliance, reliability, and resilience.
- Implements infrastructure architecture standards in accordance with industry best practices and ensures alignment to standards throughout the project completion.
- Responsible for driving the completion of substantial projects, programs, and strategies by working with appropriate internal technical professionals.
- Validates alignment with industry standard methodologies, current Sensible building offerings, and construction methods of substructure distribution supporting complex networking environments.
- Develops and maintains functional relationships across multidisciplinary teams to anticipate future physical infrastructure requirements.
- Provides representation and technical interface to key internal partner organizations including virtualization, network, storage, computing, facilities, and engineering.
- Contributes to Capacity Planning, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery Planning.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
OR
Master's degree and 3 years of Data Center operations experience
Or
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Data Center operations experience
Or
Associate's degree and 10 years of Data Center operations experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Data Center operations experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five plus years of experience in Data Centers, with at least 5 years supporting enterprise environments!
- Technical expertise in IS architecture, including scalable fiber optic networks
- Implementing and managing physical infrastructure for large enterprises!
- Maintaining highly available, fault-tolerant, redundant Data Center infrastructure.
- Experience crafting hierarchical diagrams, maintaining fiber optic rings, and structured cabling.
- Managing sophisticated physical architectures within highly regulated environments!
- Experience with multiple data transport methods such as Single Mode and Multi-Mode Fiber Optics, Copper, Wi-Fi, and Cellular (3G, 4G LTE, and 5G).
- Experience designing multi-segmented networks is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of compliance standards and requirements.

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is provided below.
$109,459-132,557 usd
