Job description


TheSpecial Services Program Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration and implementation of Special Services programs including Search & Rescue and Social Media content creation. This position coordinates system-wide Search & Rescue training, volunteers, documentation of training, incidents and activities, and provide incident command staff support. Assists with providing community education and engagement and coordinating search management operations with a minimal degree of supervision, including the creation of engaging social media content for all of the Sheriff's Office Divisions.

  • Annual salary range of:
    • $47,885 - $62,831
    • This position guarantees two salary raises within your first year. Increases are given at the end of the 6 month probationary period and at the 1 year anniversary, as long as your performance is in good standing! Increases are given until the maximum of the salary range is reached.
    • For most employees who take advantage of health benefits the salary only makes up 60% of their total compensation. The County invests in you and your family!

Minimum Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

  • Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate in Public Administration or related field; AND
  • 5 years of administrative or related support experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered as equivalent.
Special Requirements:
  • Oregon Driver's License with good driving record. This position requires driving and may require use of a personal vehicle.
  • Hiring is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
  • Obtain LED Certification within 1 year.
  • Obtain Oregon State Sheriff's Association Search & Rescue Certification within 2 years.
  • Obtain Ground Search Management Certification within 2 years.
  • Complete various National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses within 1 year (i.e. ICS 100, 200, 700, 800).
The Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or related field.
  • Proficient in computer programs including, but not limited to: Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, Outlook, Facebook, Instagram, NextDoor, and basic web editing skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, proofreading, and editing.
  • Excellent research, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong listening and communication skills.
  • The capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work efficiently without compromising quality or accuracy.
