  • Provides academic support and direction to young people who struggled in traditional high school as they transition from high school to College; focuses on building curiosity, readiness, openness, accountability, follow-through, growth mindset.
  • Builds relationships with students to help them make meaning of their education and help them envision their future selves; provides career exploration opportunities.
  • Assists students with academic work, communication, conflict resolution, technology, awareness of learning styles, organization, advocacy, accessing resources.
  • Fosters strong relationships with families and communities and the sending district, seeking to weave a culturally-competent and comprehensive web of support around each student.
  • Establishes confidential records and contributes to program data and recordkeeping system.
  • Plans and facilitates group activities for students.
  • Establishes and maintains close working relationships with public school personnel and college personnel.
  • Participates in all other operational aspects of the project, including program planning and development.
  • Acts as spokesperson for the Gateway to College Program and assists in activities to expand community support for the program.
  • Assists in marketing the program and links with media for press coverage and public announcements.
  • Works flexible hours to include some weekends and evenings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Justice, Social Science, Counseling, or related field;
  • Minimum of three years experience working in an educational or social service environment with youth from at-risk and culturally diverse populations;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of high school and college curricula;
  • Knowledge of community resources; strong written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Internet and Excel;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
  • PREFERRED:
  • Proficiency in Banner;
  • Minimum of one year alternative education or high school or college teaching experience.
  • Bilingual/bicultural (English/Spanish).

    Full-time, MCCC Unit Professional position

    Salary Range: Grade 4; Minimum $57,249 - $60,917 /year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits package. Hours: 37.5 hrs./52 weeksFunding Source: Grant
