Job Summary
*** $1,500( Hiring Bonus: $750 after first month and $750 in April)**
We are a small private school providing Special Education services to children from Kindergarten to 10th grade. We utilize a strong theme-based approach, language support, and model as we partner with families to create optimal educational experiences for every child. Ongoing training will be provided by speech pathologists, Special Education Teachers, and psychologists. Experience with children on the autistic spectrum or other special needs is helpful, but not required. Open positions are 5 days a week from 4 to 6.5 hours a day with possible opportunities for a longer day. ** Employee must maintain active employment to be eligible for all hiring bonuses.
Basic Function:
Under the general guidance and direction of the assigned Lead Teacher and Lead Aide and working on school site or other designated sites, perform assigned duties in support of meeting the special needs of children who have cognitive, emotional, communication, and/or behavioral disabilities.

E = Essential Functions
Provide assistance as directed by the teacher or lead aide to individual children or small groups in a variety of areas including readiness, social, including play, academic, gross and fine motor, feeding, self-help, behavior, and self-regulation. E
Prepare instructional materials as directed by the teacher E
Facilitate social playgroups E
Assist in observing and collecting data E
Provide 1:1 assistance as needed for children requiring social, emotional, and or behavioral support to become regulated E
Assist the teacher in setting up work areas, operating audio-visual equipment, distributing and collecting supplies, and end-of-day cleaning up of all areas used by students, including kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor play areas as needed E
Participate in team meetings as requested E
Assist with feeding, lifting, carrying, personal hygiene, mobility, and other adaptations as required E
Supervise students for temporary periods of time inside and outside the classroom and in the community during teacher absence; assist the teacher and other staff in supervision of students as required E
Establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, students and parents E
Education and Experience:
Required: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to : graduation from high school and one year of experience working with children who have disabilities or learning differences.
Preferred: Specialized training and coursework in child development, language and communication, behavior supports and/or Special Education. Demonstrated abilities and experience to perform the essential functions of this position.
Licenses and other Requirements:
Must successfully pass Department of Justice Fingerprinting
Must provide evidence within 60 days of clear TB test
Knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Basic principles and practices of instruction and supporting students who have social, emotional, communication,cognitive or behavioral differences.
- Child supportive principles
- Basic subjects taught in school including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Safe practices in classroom, playground and community
- Interpersonal relationship skills including patience and courtesy
- Basic record-keeping techniques
Ability to:
- Provide instruction in school, playground, home and in the community
- Assist teachers in meeting the educational needs of the students
- Demonstrate a patient and understanding attitude towards all children
- Relate to students individually and in small groups
- Maintain student confidence
Physical Abilities:
Seeing to monitor students during classroom activities and to read instructional materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information and provide assistance to students and staff; walking, running, reaching, holding with arms, bending at waist, crouching, and squatting to assist students; dexterity of hands and fingers to assist students and to operate specialized equipment or office equipment; lifting up to 50 lbs or equivalent assistance in lifting students.'
