Special Education Instructor & Disability Coordinator

The Special Education Instructor & Disability Coordinator position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps Program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and basic skills (academic) training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24.

Summary of Duties:

Administer the center’s disability and accommodations programs. Review applicant accommodations before arrival, Develop a center accommodation plan with the applicant/student, and work with instructors to implement the plan.

Description of Duties:

• Utilizes a variety of assessment tools and analyzes student data to develop individualized accommodations for instruction.
• Serves as the Reasonable Accommodations Committee (RAC) chair or co-chair. Regularly schedules RAC meetings maintaining minutes and documenting outcomes.
• Review applicant’s request or need for accommodations to participate in the Job Corps program or recommends denial of the applicant to the Regional Office.
• Contacts students before they arrive on center to determine their accommodations and need.
• Assists the applicant/student in determining the needed accommodations by identifying the functional limitations resulting from the disability. Works with instructors to implement required accommodations.
• Meets with student and Health and Wellness Department to ensure medical needs are coordinated.
• Obtains outside resources as needed for accommodations for students.
• Designs instruction to meet individual student needs. Curriculum developed is sufficient for student to pass all tests and certifications.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education.
• Teaching certification in Special Education in North Dakota.
