Position Information
Job Description: Upward Bound summer teachers develop and implement curriculum for one of the three core classes offered: Math, Science, or English/Literature . Teachers will teach one block class two days a week (on Tuesdays/Thursdays) during the six-week Summer Program. Each core class will have students entering 9 th grade through students entering 12 th grade.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare and implement curriculum, lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Create, assign, and grade various assessments for student learning, including classwork, essays, presentations, or projects
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
  • Utilize class academic tutors to assist in lesson plans and activity implementation

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience with college or high school aged students in one of the core class areas (Math, Science, English/Literature)
  • Experience developing and delivering curriculum
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with students, staff, and key stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or similar field
  • ND or MN teaching license
  • Experience working with low-income and/or future first-generation college students

Logistics:
Work Location: North Dakota State University
Hours & Schedule: Instructors will work 15 hours a week from June 10th through July 3rd. Instructors will teach two days a week, working directly with students (5 hours), plus 10 hours of planning/prep/grading each week. Instructors will also work up to 15 hours a week, May 27th to June 7th, to prep their curriculum and syllabi. * Optional: Chaperone UB end-of-summer trip (3 days during the week of July 8th).
Pay Range: $23-$25/hour; this is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position.
