Trio Instructor/Advisor

• $36,000 - $38,000 annual + travel expenses, Exempt

• This position can be located in Bismarck, ND or on the Standing Rock Reservation

This position entails the provision of career, academic, and personal counseling services to an assigned portion of the disadvantaged population (ages 11-adults) in grant target areas in order to facilitate successful completion of secondary education and enrollment in post-secondary education.

• Responsible for identifying and selecting qualified participants from a minimum of three target schools and provide assistance in completing grades six through twelve.
• Responsible for coordination of agency and community resources in conjunction with career and academic counseling and referrals when appropriate to human/social service agencies
• Responsible for acting as a liaison and information source to further participant knowledge concerning secondary and post-secondary expectations and procedures. Responsible for providing academic, career, personal, and financial group/individual/peer counseling to participants and for organizing mentoring activities at appropriate levels. Responsible for parental workshops on appropriate topics.
• Responsible for identifying, selecting, and serving a group of 15 6-8 grade students from a minimum of one target school to receive intensive services in all areas
• Responsible for maintenance of accurate student and program records. Responsible for participating in opportunities for staff evaluation, growth, and development.

• Ability to develop and implement workshops in the areas of career exploration, financial aid, and areas enhancing academic success.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and interpersonal communication.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, and drive for extended periods of time.
• Ability to network with public school personnel.

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, or related field. May 2024 graduates will be considered.
• Experience in teaching/counseling in group and/or classroom presentations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate motor vehicles provided through state motor pool.
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

• Master's degree in Education, Social Work, or related field.
• Experience in teaching/counseling in group and/or classroom presentations with students grades 6-12.
• Experience with TRIO Programs.
• Experience with low-income, first generation college populations.
• Experiencing working with diverse student populations, including American Indian communities.
