Job Responsibilities
The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is searching to fill a Special Agent position in our Fusion Center - Gang Intelligence Unit/Low Country. The ideal candidate must have a bachelor's degree, integrity, and strong computer skills.
General Responsibility
Serve as the GangNET liaison for Gang Units and Task Forces across South Carolina, while assisting with multi-jurisdictional cases as needed.
Specific Duties
  • Ensure the SC GangNET database operates in accordance with the appropriate laws, regulations, and agency policies. Train law enforcement in the procedures for entering data into GangNET and the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) Gang File. Maintain the GangNET database as needed and provide effective, efficient and professional gang intelligence for the South Carolina criminal justice community. Conduct audits and provide statistics as needed. Serve as the GangNET liaison for Gang Units and Task Forces across South Carolina, while assisting with multi-jurisdictional cases (SGJ) as needed. Participate in making arrests, in raids, searches, in serving subpoenas or court orders, and in conducting surveillance of criminal subjects.
  • Participate in gathering and developing material facts and supporting information relating to violations or possible violations of state or federal law by interviewing: suspects, victims, and witnesses to crimes or relevant matters, while examining records, collecting physical and documentary evidence, and establishing contacts with law enforcement personnel and the public. Participate in investigations on behalf of the State and local law enforcement agencies as requested. Foster a positive relationship with all agencies and departments requesting assistance. Participate in stakeouts/surveillance of high risk targets of anticipated crimes. May be responsible for controlling the assigned activities of persons who have agreed to act as an informant.
  • Report information, prepare concise and accurately written reports and statements. Provide oral communications concerning cases and brief agents, supervisors, and other law enforcement agencies on matters of importance. Draft various reports of investigative findings and prepare status reports. Provide written or oral testimony in court.
  • Serve as a resource to command staff and policy makers concerning gang activity in South Carolina and perform other duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be a Class I certified Law Enforcement Officer through the SC Criminal Justice Academy with at least three (3) years of relevant law enforcement experience.
  • Position will require case file management, preparation, and courtroom testimony.
  • Must have strong computer training and experience web-based applications/products.
  • Overnight travel and after hour response to requests for service will be required.
  • Presentations to law enforcement and the public will be required on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Law Enforcement experience in gang/criminal investigations and in documenting gang members.
