Software Engineer (Ai Solutions)

What will you do as a Software Engineer (AI Solutions)?

At LMI, the Engineers solve tough factory inspection applications using state-of-the-art AI models.  As a Software Engineer, you will work directly with customers to develop custom inspection solutions.  You are responsible for sensor specification, imaging system configuration, data collection and wrangling, AI model pipeline design and training, and model runtime performance.  You will also be working hand in hand with the Software Engineering team to advance the Inspection Gadget runtime platform and with the internal AI R&D team to develop new AI models for customer applications. You will be a key part of the AI Solutions team in the Boston office and will report to the Senior Director - AI Solutions Team.

• Designs, trains, and optimizes AI model pipelines for customer applications using state of the art open source models and custom models from AI R&D team
• Determines all vision sensor specifications for 2D and 3D applications
• Gathers training and test data by configuring and using lab prototypes and on-prem imaging data-collection systems
• Works with Field Application Engineers to qualify inspection opportunities
• Work with Solutions Team engineers to optimize model runtime performance
• Last mile configuration of Gadget App including layout, image annotations, and graphs and Gadget OS including controller and services (sensor, automation, pipeline)
• Responsible for coordinating customer engagements, pilot deployment and production scaling
• Provides input to AI R&D team to help with prioritization
• Contributes to upkeep and maintenance of LMI AI Solutions test lab

• Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) BS/MS/PhD with up to 3 years of related professional experience
• Fluent: Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, Numpy, SciKit Learn and other ML
• Working knowledge of AI modeling techniques and trends, especially CNN based model architectures
• Demonstrated experience extracting / applying software from open source repos
• Familiarity with semantic segmentation, object detection, and anomaly detection deep learning models
• Familiarity with Docker/Docker-compose workflows
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts
• Comfortable configuring and programming electronic systems including Nvidia Jetson, Raspberry Pi, photo-electric triggering systems, PWM drives, etc
• Excellent problem solving skills in the face of ambiguity using a clear understanding of facts and implementation of test plans and solution strategies
• Solid interpersonal skills to be effective in a team environment
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with proficiency using Google products as an asset
• Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills
• Self-motivated, have a positive attitude and a results oriented approach to business
• A valid passport and the ability to travel domestically up to 20%
