Software Development Manager

Seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to oversee programmers and quality assurance staff producing and maintaining company software applications. Qualified candidates must have verifiable development team management experience and must reside in the Sacramento, California area.

This position requires initiative, a strong work ethic, decision-making and prioritization skills. Must be able to energize staff, leading to delivery of quality software on time, and maintaining availability of platforms and equipment. The successful candidate will have significant experience in Agile Software Development including past work in coding, QA, project management, and/or DevOps. Requires the ability to recruit and effectively manage both local and remote staff and must be friendly, energetic, displaying a positive attitude with an approachable and professional demeanor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage mixed in-house and offshore development resources
• Maintain industry knowledge and advise on best practices in development techniques including Agile development and quality assurance
• Collaborate with developers and understand design and technology stack, especially C#, Angular, Microservices architecture
• Effectively communicate with Product team and other stakeholders impacted by system changes or design
• Prioritize tasks and coordinate with department heads and staff to achieve the most impact and client satisfaction with a spirit of continuous improvement
• Succinctly translate highly technical issues into layman's terms for non-IT management and convey vision of management to development team to unify objectives of IT and the business
• Define annual and quarterly objectives and assist in budget preparations, then manage team to meet objectives while staying within budget

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or degree in related field, advanced degree preferred
• Certifications or training in Agile or PMP a plus
• 6+ years' experience as a Software Development Manager - prior experience as a developer preferred
• Familiarity with purpose, benefits, and limitations of software stack: Microsoft .NET Core C#, Visual Studio, Angular 12+, Entity Framework Core, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, MVC, ASP.Net Core, JSON, XML, SQL and other auxiliary Software Development and scripting languages and tools
• Understanding of microservices and other software architectures
• Effective power-user of M365 Suite applications, especially Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint
• Proven ability to recruit and effectively manage local/remote staff and vendors
• Familiarity with change control systems (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps) and Code Repositories
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases, including ability to read and write basic SQL queries
• Experience with document management, OCR, machine learning, graphic and PDF file handling a plus
• Prefer prior experience with risk management, compliance, UCC Financing Statements, public records, and/or the finance or legal industry
• Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, especially Amazon Web Services, Microsoft 365, Jira Administration, hardware, and networking knowledge a plus
• Ability to speak/understand Spanish, a plus
