Summary:
This position reports directly to the Health Fund Sr. Manager, Social Work. The Health Fund Social Worker is responsible for providing information on benefits provided by the Fund and information on community, governmental and nonprofit organizations and programs when benefits have been exhausted or otherwise not covered by the Fund. The Social Worker also provides counseling and emotional support to seriously ill and or disabled members and family members. In this role, the Social Worker acts as a liaison between Fund departments and benefit vendors as well as the member’s employer and union representatives. The Social Worker is an integral part of the Health Fund’s health services unit.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess and evaluate needs of participants.
- Provide supportive counseling, crisis intervention, information and referral, entitlement counseling and advocacy services to members and their families.
- Act as liaison between member and families with Fund vendors including Empire, Optum Rx and John Hancock.
- Act as a Health Fund liaison between the member needing social work services and the union.
- Participate in clinical rounds and collaborate with Health Services clinical staff on appropriate cases that require Social Worker intervention.
- Assist with coordinating requests for critical incident counseling for members at their work sites.
- Assist in the development of partnerships with community or government organizations.
- Support the maintenance of a resource database.
- Conduct educational presentations to departments in Funds and Union re role of Social Worker.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Fund benefits.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of resources and entitlements.
- Maintain records and statistics.
- Generate monthly unit statistical reports
- Draft, edit and update unit SOPS.
- Serve as a resource for the Health Services staff.
- Participate in planning and administration of special projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist in supervising assistant(s) to the Social Worker.

Qualifications and Core Competencies:
- At least 2 years Counseling and Social Work experience.
- Strong knowledge base of the healthcare industry.
- Welfare/Trust Funds background a plus.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel and Word
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills.
- Ability to work on simultaneous projects with diverse working groups.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to supervise personnel
Language Skills: The ability to read, write and understand English is essential.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
Education:
Master’sDegree and NY license in Social Work (L.M.S.W. or L.C.S.W) required
