Summary/Objective
The Shop Manager provides a reasonable department operating profit and maintains customer satisfaction standards while controlling expenses. In locations where there are subordinate mechanics the Shop Manager/Mechanic directs the activities of the other service department employees in performing repairs, including meeting time schedules and productivity levels and maintaining high quality standards. Maintains all OSHA/EPA regulations.
Essential Functions
Supervise work load of service technicians. Handles customer complaint problems pertaining to service and repair work. Maintains in good condition all service tools and service vehicles. Responsible for keeping shop area clean and organized. Responsible for the safety of service technicians and maintaining a safe working environment in the shop area and reporting all accidents immediately. Work with Contract Manager, and other Management. Make sure warranty claims are processed and forwarded to supplier. Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them. Hires, trains, motivates and monitors the performance of all service department employees. Implements any cost saving ideals that will help the service department operate efficiently. Monitors the progress and completion of vehicles in the shop ensuring that proper repair and delivery schedules are achieved and all safety procedures are followed. Maintains high quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conducts periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality. Monitors paper flow to ensure all documents are accounted for and closed in a timely manner. Complete repair work orders. Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with state, federal and local regulations that affect Service department operations. Provides necessary training for employees. Ensure proper safety equipment is being used at all times. Maintains a clean, organized work area. Attends staff meetings. Maintains a professional appearance and attitude with co-workers, customers, vendors. Follows all company policies and procedures. Enforces company policy and procedure to service department staff. Performs preventive maintenance and repair of vehicles. Orders inventory and supplies as needed. Manages fleet maintenance software for workorders and inventory usage.

Supervisory Responsibility
Supervise all service department staff. Typically, 6 or more employees.
Work Environment
This job operates in an office and shop setting but also requires frequent movement throughout the service department and customers place of business. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Physical Demands
Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
Climbing in and out of vehicles.
Occasional stooping and bending.
Ability to lift/push/pull up to 45 lbs.
Normal range of hearing and vision.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position would require working evenings and weekends on occasion, working with customers and key management on various projects.
Education and Experience
- Valid driver's license with good standing MVR
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred 1 years' service supervisor with estimating experience.
- Preferred 3 years' Heavy-Duty Truck Equipment, Medium Duty Truck and/or Body Shop Technician experience
