Job Purpose
The Shop Foreman oversees the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy machinery and equipment within the workshop. This role involves managing a team of technicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, manufacturer standards, and maintaining efficient workflow in the shop.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and prioritize repair and maintenance activities on Heavy Equipment such as haulers, loaders, and excavators
- Lead, supervise, and mentor shop technicians by assigning tasks and monitoring performance
- Diagnose complex mechanical issues and provide technical expertise to resolve problems efficiently
- Ensure compliance with equipment manufacturer specifications and maintenance standards
- Manage inventory of parts, tools, and equipment required for repairs
- Plan and schedule maintenance and repair tasks to maximize shop productivity
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inventory
- Communicate effectively with management regarding shop operations and resource needs
- Review punch entries and approve employee timecards
- All other duties assigned
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
- Operation and maintenance requirements of heavy-duty construction equipment
- Hazards and Safety precautions of trade
- Ability to diagnose defects in Heavy Equipment
- Advanced organizational, verbal and writing communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and judgment
- Ability to work independently with little instruction, take initiative, and utilize creative problem solving
- Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- 5+ years of job-related experience
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be alert and is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Working Conditions and Additional Requirements
This job operates in an outdoors environment. Operation hours are from 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional needs outside standard business hours to accommodate meetings, training, and projects. Some travel may be required. This role routinely uses standard shop equipment such as computers, tools, and machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
