Heavy Equipment Shop Foreman
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Shop Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for overseeing and preparing work orders, maintaining NTMWD Heavy Equipment, bulldozers, excavators, off-road trucks, compactors and various mechanical units. This position directs the activities and duties of assigned subordinates. This position will frequently by called on to oversee and direct maintenance repairs and serve as training instructor.
Major Responsibilities
- Maintains a program of repair and preventive maintenance for landfill Heavy Equipment and machinery owned by the NTMWD.
- Analyzes mechanical problems and estimates job requirements.
- Documents and records needed data and information into the Fleet Management Information System.
- Responsible for the safety of all employees under supervision.
- Orders and purchases needed parts and supplies.
- Assists in preparing division budget and replacement schedule.
- Utilizes the Operations and Maintenance manuals, technical publications, and manufacturer's specifications for the process of maintaining and repairing NTMWD equipment, machines, and Heavy Equipment.
- Supervises a group of employees, including training, scheduling, and evaluation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of operation and repairs to mechanical equipment.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- Must be able to perform formal and informal maintenance training as requires.
- Must possess the ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment.
- Must possess the ability to use and interpret a computer diagnostic program for Caterpillar and other engines.
Education and Experience
- Three years' experience in the field of maintenance, Heavy Equipment repair, diesel engine and hydraulic system repair, including mechanical and Heavy Equipment operation, and two years' supervisory experience.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.
- Equipment Management Certification preferred but not required.
Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
Heavy physical exertion with lifting requirements from 10 to 100 pounds daily. Work also includes pushing, pulling, climbing ladders and working at heights and in confined spaces. Working conditions include exposure to weather, odor, gases and dust. Equipment utilized includes electrical and testing equipment, band tools, power tools, generator, pumps and trucks.
