Job description

General Summary: The Shipping/Receiving Clerk plays a crucial role in managing the shipping and receiving of goods within a company or warehouse setting. Their primary responsibilities involve handling incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining organized inventory. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Shipping Responsibilities: Prepare outgoing shipments, ensuring items are correctly packed, labeled, and documented for delivery.

Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, or postal services to schedule pickups or deliveries. Verify and confirm shipping orders, ensuring accuracy in quantities and items. Receiving Responsibilities: Receive incoming shipments, inspecting and verifying the contents against purchase orders or packing slips.

Unload delivery trucks, record received items, and process paperwork for inventory. Organize and distribute received items to appropriate departments or storage locations. Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records using computer systems or manual logs.

Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, damages, or discrepancies. Assist in periodic inventory counts and reconciliation to ensure accuracy. Quality Control: Inspect incoming and outgoing products for quality, damages, or defects.

Report any issues with shipments to the appropriate departments. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Generate shipping and receiving documentation such as packing lists or shipping labels. Maintain organized records of all incoming and outgoing shipments.

Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while handling shipments or operating equipment. Follow company policies and procedures regarding shipping, receiving, and storage. Equipment Operation: Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment to move, load, or unload shipments when required.

Communication: Collaborate with various departments, suppliers, and carriers to coordinate shipping and receiving activities. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding inventory status and any issues that arise. Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve any discrepancies in shipments or inventory counts.

Troubleshoot logistical issues to ensure smooth shipping and receiving operations. Organizational Skills: Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring efficient workflow and easy access to inventory. Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
