The Salvation Army Mission:  The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church.  Its message is based on the Bible. Summary/Primary Purpose:  Provide support to the Emergency Shelter Director by providing supervision and intake of clients, maintaining security, and providing supportive services in a Christian atmosphere.  Regular attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct intake interview of incoming residents into the shelter.
  2. Assign a proper room; distribute needed bedding and personal care items.
  3. Provide necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed. Maintain an awareness of client needs.
  4. Answer phone calls, take messages when appropriate.
  5. General cleaning as necessary.
  6. Prepare coffee and oversee breakfast preparation and clean up.
  7. Administer breathalyzer tests.
  8. Review log book and update as needed.
  9. Do room inspections and enforce cleaning rules for areas.
  10. Distribute medications as needed.
  11. Be responsible for over-all cleanliness of the shelter areas.
  12. Supervises volunteers/community service workers as assigned.
  13. Provide seasonal assistance as needed.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:  High School Diploma or equivalent required, and a minimum of 1 year experience


Additional Information

Qualifications:  The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  1. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  2. Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.  As well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  1. Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  1. Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  1. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Employee may often be required to engage in rigorous activities. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying objects up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

 

Working Conditions:  The work environment is a business office setting with office equipment, light traffic and moderate noise levels.
