Position:Food Service Worker
Location: Chicago, IL
Contract Duration: Around 6+ months
Pay: $17/hour ($35,000 - $46,000)

Hours/Schedule: 40 - 48 hours/week. Weekends and holidays may be required.
Start date: Immediate
Position Overview: The Food Service Worker provides general labor for tasks related to Food Service and other tasks to ensure smooth operations of the facility. Assists in the set-up and operations of Food Service areas.
Responsibilities:
- Assists cooks in preparation and safe handling of food in mobile kitchen.
- Assists leads in any of the preparation and safe handling of food or beverages.
- Assists in the cleanliness of the serving, dinning, preparation or any other area of the shelter.
- Serves meals.
- Washes dishes and performs other general and assigned cleaning tasks.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
- Must possess ServSafe® Food Handler certification.
- Previous experience working in a shelter environment preferred.
- 1-year previous Food Service experience required.
- Food Handler certification required.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to be compassionate and firm towards shelter residents.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and other staff members.
- Ability to use sound judgement and perform job duties with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail to procedures, processes, and policies.
Work Environment and Location:
Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
