Senior Underwriter - US Incoming Property
Exton, PA I USA
We are currently looking for a Senior Property Underwriter to join our US Incoming Business Team in our Exton, PA NY/NY office. This position is housed within our General Property Underwriting business unit and has unique responsibilities and requirements.
As a Senior Underwriter you will act as the technical expert and Underwriter for the function and US market. You will be responsible for working within authority limits on assignments reflecting the expert degree of technical complexity and coordination under broad management direction. You will review global insurance programs and set up into US compliant programs. With knowledge of US market regulatory requirements, you will communicate to the AXA XL UnderwritingNetwork to issuelocal US policies based on international instruction.
This position is typically an individual contributor and your key responsibilities will involve underwriting business in line with the underwriting guidelines; monitoring aggregate exposure within agreed limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within agreed limits; ensuring all risks written, are within the agreed maximum; maintaining awareness of all claims advised; supporting and providing input on settlement of claims advised; building and maintaining relationships with our international network, brokers and clients; supporting the design and structure of risks; identifying and driving new product development opportunities.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Underwrite, manage and service a renewal property book and new business in accordance with business unit goals.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk.
  • Negotiate with producing underwriters within the limits of delegated authority and in accordance with established underwriting standards to achieve profit objectives.
  • Participate in discussions on risk assessment and provide mentorship and leadership to peers.
  • Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients and identify and establish new distribution relationships.
  • Maintain expertise with the products, services, priorities and target markets to more effectively enable clients to uncover hidden risks.
  • Promote the company's expertise by participating in industry conferences and events while regularly conducting and taking leadership roles in client and broker meetings to educate on risk.
  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Support the business planning and forecasting process; monitor financial exposure within outlined limits; monitor premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
  • Identify and drive new product development opportunities.
  • Under broad management direction, works at the highest authority limits on assignments reflecting the expert degree of technical complexity and coordination.
  • Deliverables and problem-solving issues may relate to the international aspects of services related to policy issuance, regulatory requirements, reporting, premium payment processes, and money/currency movement
  • Possesses an expert level of technical knowledge and skills including product and industry
  • This role is housed within a collaborative team environment and will provide guidance to team members.

  • Extensive experience in the relevant class of business.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Possesses a high and extensive level of technical knowledge and skills including product & industry.
  • Able to apply business understanding and/or management experience to set direction within the segment or function.
  • May provide training to junior members of the team/unit.
  • Excelled analytical negotiation and sales/marketing skills.
  • Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning.
  • Knowledge of functionality of systems.

  • Proficiency in French, German or other languages would be a plus

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 95,000 - 186,500. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
