Senior Underwriter – Renewable Onshore Energy – General Liability
The Senior Underwriter for our Renewable Onshore Energy Portfolio will be responsible for the supervision and expansion of the general liability and excess liability book for our Onshore Renewable Energy team in the United States.
In addition to overseeing a book worth $10 Million and generating new business, this position will also serve as a liability expert for other team members. This includes conducting peer reviews and advising on the sufficiency of wording and endorsements.
The liability book in the United States currently amounts to approximately $10MM in GWP. Our goal is to achieve double-digit growth in the coming years.
What will you do in this role?
Underwriting
- Independently underwrite new and renewal risks within underwriting authority, negotiate of terms and conditions, issue quotes to brokers on new and renewal business
- Prepare detailed underwriting proposals for peer review; provide peer reviews of colleagues’ risk referrals
- Meet brokers and clients, attend conferences and site visits, and other marketing of AXIS
- Further develop the US Renewable Energy liability book, including new growth areas for Renewable
Energy
- Provide ongoing review of adequacy of policy wordings and endorsements; assist fellow underwriters in appropriate tailoring coverage to the risks they refer
- Assist in general underwriting-related administration to ensure efficient workflow within the team
General ad hoc administration and support
- Complete reports and presentations as required for internal planning; contribute to the annual business planning process
- Liaise with other departments – claims, finance, operations, ceded re, distribution
- Liaise with reinsurance partners as needed, including active participation in treaty renewals
Work Profile
Travel domestically and internationally as required; estimated 1-2 trips per month, occasionally on weekends, as required. Be in the office or in front of brokers and/or clients, 2-3 days per week
Candidate Profile
Senior Underwriter –Renewable Onshore Energy - General Liability will be a “hands-on” technical expert with a history of success within a top-tier Commercial Insurance Carrier focused on building a complex book of General liability risk targeting the Project developers and Owners/Operators in the Renewable on Shore Energy Sector.
Candidates will have deep contacts within Retail broker channels and full life cycle exposure to portfolio management across solicitation of submissions, underwriting analysis, preparing and issuing indications/quotations/binders, and marketing.
Additionally, the candidate must have an executive presence, demonstrating success in communicating, influencing, and building solid relationships that add value to the AXIS book of business and contribute to longer-term strategic initiatives.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s Degree or above
- Relevant insurance industry experience in the Renewable Energy sector
- Existing relationships with key broker partners
- Excellent ability to analyze detail and judge data and reports.
- Strong analytical skills, including competence MS Office systems
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to perform lookup functions, create pivot tables, and create analysis from multiple data sets
- Good organizational and time management skills, including the ability to effectively manage high volumes
- Excellent negotiation skills, hard-working and ability to work under pressure
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of 165K to 200K (NY), 140K to 175K (IL), 145K to 195K (CA), 135K to 170K (MO). Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location; preference for candidates in cities with an AXIS office (NYC, SF, Chicago, Kansas City), however open to the right candidate in a remote location. In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate performance and your individual performance.
