Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:This position will function within the Texas Southern University’s Infrastructure team responsible for the support and maintenance of the University’s IT systems. As a member of the OIT department this position strives to ensure consistency in communications, actions, and alignment to the strategic plan of the university. This position is also responsible for supporting the mission of the university by delivering technology, services, solutions and guidance to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a professional, exemplary, service oriented collaborative manner.
Essential Duties Summary:- System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Ensure the stability and integrity of systems by performing regular maintenance and updates. Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues promptly. Implement solutions to optimize system performance.
- Server Management: Configure, install, and maintain servers, including both physical and virtual servers. Monitor server health, resource utilization, and security.
- Security Management: Implement and manage security measures to protect the organization’s systems and data. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments. Respond to security incidents and implement corrective actions. Patch systems.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans. Regularly test and update backup and recovery procedures.
- User Support: Provide technical support to end-users and other IT staff. Assist in resolving escalated support issues.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies. Create and update documentation for troubleshooting and resolution processes.
- Automation: Implement automation tools and scripts to streamline routine tasks and improve efficiency.
- Collaboration with IT Teams: Work closely with other IT teams, such as development and database administration, to ensure seamless integration of systems.
- Capacity Planning: Monitor system resource usage and plan for future capacity needs. Make recommendations for hardware and software upgrades as necessary.
- Policy Implementation: Enforce IT policies and procedures related to s stem and network administration. Stay informed about industry best practices and recommend updates to policies as needed.
- Training and Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior system administrators. Conduct training sessions for end-users or IT staff when necessary.
- Vendor Management: Coordinate with vendors for support, maintenance, and procurement of IT equipment and services. Senior System Administrators are expected to have extensive experience and expertise in system and network administration. They often play a crucial role in decision-making, architecture planning, and ensuring the overall stability and security of an organization’s IT infrastructure.

Hiring Range:Commensurate with experience.
Education:Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Information Technology, Business or closely related discipline preferred.
Required Licensing/Certification:Technology related certifications m server administration. (Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE))
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:
- The administration of domain user accounts, file, and folder permissions, DHCP, DNS, RRAS, or other network services.
- The use of personal computers and Microsoft Office software such as Word Excel Power Point and Access.
Skilled in:
- Outstanding written/oral communication and analytical skills, and excellent presentation skills.
Ability to:
- Communicate on both a technical and business level.
Requires five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience. Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures.
Working/Environmental Conditions:- Routine office environment.
- Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
- Some stooping, lifting, or carrying objects light weight may be required.
- Use of video display terminal.
