You will work on distributed systems that ingest, search, and report on millions of tickets, users, organizations, and other continuously growing data sets. We're responsible for building scalable, resilient, and flexible systems that drive core features within the Zendesk Support product, a key component of the Zendesk product suite. What You'll Be Doing

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Zendesk you will use your experience and technical expertise to steer our teams’ efforts towards achieving key product objectives with an eye towards continuous improvement of technology and process.

Your daily activities will include:
  • Applying your deep understanding of distributed systems to safely and effectively drive changes and enhancements.
  • Evaluate and propose enhancements that will improve holistic performance across multiple systems.
  • Identifying and resolving reliability issues at scale, working across dependencies.
  • Improving the team’s delivery through mentoring, training, and process changes, typically in partnership with a people manager.
  • Be a technical point of contact for technical stakeholders and Product partners.
  • Assisting and influencing teams on the design and retrofit of fault-tolerant systems.
What You Bring to the Role
  • Demonstrated experience in a progressive SaaS software development environment with a strong working knowledge of Ruby.
  • Experience with large scale Elasticsearch clusters.
  • Experience with Kafka or other event stream systems.
  • In-depth understanding of data application development and agile practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively across different time zones.
  • A holistic, quality-based approach to development and testing.
  • Experience with innovative thinking and the ability to justify technical decisions to the business including customer value and cost estimation.
  • Proven experience in leading teams and/or large-scale projects, either as a technical lead or manager.

The US annualized base salary range for this position is $177,000.00-$265,000.00. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives. While this range reflects the minimum and maximum value for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, the offer for the successful candidate for this position will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other factors such as work location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only (or OTE for commissions based roles), and do not include bonus, benefits, or related incentives.
