POSITION: Senior Staff Mechanical R&D Engineer
FULLTIME/PARTTIME: Full time
LOCATION: Irvine, CA
SCHEDULE: 40hrs M-F
PAY RANGE: 150K -200K

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- The Mechanical Staff Engineer position is part of the Sensing Hardware Team within Rockley focused on developing wearable products in the health and wellness sector using the silicon photonics chips.
- The Sensing Hardware Team is focused on the integration of photonics chips and accompanying electronics sub-assemblies into high volume wearable consumer products.
- The role of the Mechanical Staff Engineer is to help develop mechanical packaging concepts for both internal wearable architectures as well as partnering with external customers on wearable integration.
- Additionally, the Mechanical Staff Engineer is responsible for maturing prototype designs into scalable commercial releases by working with partner Contract Manufacturers and applying best design practices such as Design for Six Sigma, dFMEA, pFMEA, and Simulation tools.
- The role of the Mechanical Staff Engineer is to help develop mechanical packaging concepts for both internal wearable architectures as well as partnering with external customers on wearable integration.
- Additionally, the Mechanical Staff Engineer is responsible for maturing prototype designs into scalable commercial releases by working with partner Contract Manufacturers and applying best design practices such as Design for Six Sigma, dFMEA, pFMEA, and Simulation tools.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop conceptual and prototype Mechanical packaging solutions to support the product and applications teams.
- Collaborate with Hardware and Optical Engineers to define requirements and understand constraints in designing micro-electromechanical assemblies.
- Develop, set-up, and validate benchtop experiments to prove design requirements are being met and design margin is understood.
- Collaborate with Process Development Engineers to optimize the design for High Volume Manufacturing and Assembly.
- Write documentation for experimental setups developed.
- Develop test protocols and test reports documenting verification of product.
- Perform data collections supporting test protocols developed.
- Perform data analysis on experimental results.
- Perform various analytic tests including but not limited to: spectroscopy measurements, mechanical tests, environmental tests, in-house custom tests
- Source, maintain, and troubleshoot lab instruments.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical, BioMedical, Materials, Physics, or similar)
- Minimum 8+ years experience or equivalent
- Strong design and analysis skills in SolidWorks, FEA/CFD Simulation
- Strong Technical skills and ability to evaluate and analyse data and results.
- Experience designing electromechanical assemblies for high volume manufacturing and automation
- Ability to create test protocols to answer critical questions toward wearable product development
- Experience in general lab technique, design of experiments, mechanical/electrical/optical equipment and setups is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Effective communication skills which include verbal and written in English
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and in a group setting with minimal direction the flexibility to adjust to workload based upon changing priorities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels, such as from office equipment.
