Position Overview: The Senior Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Accounting and will be primarily responsible for developing and enforcing accounting policies and procedures around controlling assets including cash, fixed assets and inventory. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for accounts payable, purchasing, the general ledger and other ancillary systems that feed transactional data to the general ledger. This position will play an active role daily and monthly reporting and analysis, physical inventory, GL closing process and special projects. Must be comfortable working in office full-time.
Responsibilities:
Accounting Transactions, Cashflow Management and monthly Financial Statements - 65%
- Oversee and ensure timely and accurate recording of accounting transactions, general ledger and timely production and distribution of monthly financial statements and reports within fifteen (15) days of month end.
- Oversee Purchasing and Accounts Payable functions
- Disseminate financial information clearly and concisely on a timely basis. Must be able to analyze and review every facet of the business and make recommendations to improve processes and accurate reporting.
- The company is converting computer software from Legacy to Microsoft Business Central, Senior Staff Accountant needs to learn and best utilize the new system, including ACH payments, tracking inventory, etc.
High Value Inventory Management - Track both Perpetual and Physical Precious Metal Inventory - 35%
- Prepares monthly inventory roll forward; computing the average purchase price/cost of metal for GAAP reporting. Reconciles physical high value inventory count to general ledger inventory.
- Prepares monthly physical precious metal inventory and audits process, records and reports differences within five (5) days to management.
- Responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of accounting processes to track, safeguard inventory and fixed assets.
- Act as backup to the Director of Accounting as necessary and other duties will be assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent - post Bachelor Certificate Program) in Accounting or Finance required
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in accounting, financial reporting, and cost management required. With exposure to manufacturing or production environment a plus.
- Prior supervisory experience a plus. Will need to act as a Team Lead.
- Hands on, operational, transactional and pragmatic approach to business. Small business experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills, strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects in a timely and independent manner
- Prior IT project plan and project management experience considered a plus
- Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic fluid environment
- Ability to work extended and weekend hours, if necessary, to ensure project completion or deliverables
