The Senior Specialist, Industrial Hygiene is responsible for being the company's representative for all Industrial Hygiene related legal work. The role is accountable for investigating historical Industrial Hygiene work, workplace exposures, historical legislative changes, and scientific literature evolution.
Main ResponsibilitiesTestify as the company representative for all Industrial Hygiene related legal work
Participate in depositions and legal proceedings as a company representative and Industrial Hygiene expert
Investigate into legal claims by providing summary of historical data, science, programs, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used at the time of the claims
Read, understand, and critically analyze scientific research with regards to occupational exposures and exposure limit decisions
Provide summary and recommendations on internal company occupational exposures
Provide recommendations for sampling initiatives to the Director of Dangerous Goods and Industrial Hygiene
Provide Industrial Hygiene summaries to the Medical or Claims departments for compensation advocation
Liaise with Medical and Claims departments on active working claims
Act as a technical resource and support to regional and local facilities, including local regulatory agencies (e.g., Labour Canada)
Participate in exposure investigation processes and support the identification and implementation of follow-up action plans
Support the Dangerous Goods Officers and Industrial Hygienists when needed
Working ConditionsThe role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work night shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires regular travel (less than 50%) for field work. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

Minimum 10 years of experience within the Industrial Hygiene field
o Experience testifying in workplace exposure cases
o Railroad experience*

Education/Certification/DesignationBachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Sciences
Master's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Sciences*
Valid Driver's License
Ability to complete Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH)*
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation*
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)*
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)*
Health and Safety Certification pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER 40 Hour)*
