The Senior Scientistis a newly created role that directly supports our enterprise strategy, focused on expanding our addressable market in the building and construction markets. This role is responsible for product development of Multi-materials system (MMS), including working with R&D and other cross-fuctions teams, as well as external ecosystem refining product concepts, developing MVP(minimal viable product) and protypes, and working with MMS Advanced Manufacturing team to scale the production. The MMS Product Development scientist will play a key role in the R&D core team and OC Innovation network, supporting the development of key capabilities in to accelerate innovation and growth.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Product development
  • Responsible for leading product development of MMS, including working with R&D peers, other cross-fuctions teams, as well as external ecosystem refining product concepts, developing MVP(minimal viable product) and prototypes, and working with MMS Advanced Manufacturing team to scale the production.

Key responsibilities:
  • Drive with speed. Responsible for developing and driving prototyping capabitlies and process for MMS, through collaboration with internal R&D teams and external parterners.
  • Enhance Fundamental Science. Continue to develop and build understanding of Building physics and material performance, and how material and design drive building envelop performance on key functions, i.e. air, moisture, vapor, thermal, fire, acoutstic and structural performance.
  • Bridge product scaling. Develop and deliver prefabricated assembly expertise, including but not limited to application of accessories that are required to complete the system.
  • Big picture mindset. Stay current with architecture trends driven by secular trends and environmental context, and translate into building envelope performance trends and requirements, especially for prefabricated solutions.
  • Outside in mindset. Identify and develop relationships with suitable internal and external players to derive insights and accelerate execution.
  • Provide leadership to peers though coaching, mentoring, and supporting the development of organizational capabilities. Continue to grow and stay current on key discipline and ensure that the team continues to develop their technical capability.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 6+ years' experience with a combination of technical, program/project management, product development and/or product research, commercialization and/or innovation roles.
  • 5+ years' experience in product development, preferrably within Building application.
  • Understand or have capabilities to understand building science and material science, understand how material performance and system design impacts building envelop performance.
  • Master and above degree in related discipline, including but not limited to material science and engineering (polymer / composite focus), building science, architectural science.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Highly capable in structuring problems and scoping/executing projects in high level of ambuiity and complexity ambiguous situations.
  • Execute with sense of urgency and with open innovation mindset.
  • Experience leading through influence.
  • Working independently and managing time across multiple projects with varying deadlines.
  • Leading deep technical discussions and market/customer discussions.
  • Working in a matrix organization.
