METRIC is primarily located in Dabney Hall and Polk Hall, with satellite facilities in the Molecular Toxicology Building and Partners III on Centennial Campus.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Consulting with potential users, maintaining instrumentation, collecting data, assisting users with experimental design and interpretation, depositing completed structures to relevant databases, assisting users in manuscript and grant submissions, and archiving of data.
- Providing training to new users, coordinating and facilitating workshops or other educational opportunities, and assisting with additional critical needs within University Core Facilities as needed.
- Managing the financial and administrative operations of the Small Molecule X-Ray platform by providing quotes for services, billing for services, preparing and submitting budget and usage reports, drafting and submitting instrumentation proposals, maintaining up-to-date safety plans, and working with METRIC leadership to ensure facility needs are addressed.
- Developing and implementing outreach efforts, and work closely with faculty to enhance graduate and undergraduate educational opportunities.
- Managing sample submission, data collection, structure determination and refinement, routine and minor maintenance of instrumentation.
- Maintaining the computational environment and the Facility's copy of the Cambridge Structural Database.
- Working collaboratively with students, postdocs, and faculty, developing and implementing Facility policies in conjunction with Associate Director and users' group.
- Managing Facility finances, developing content for the Facility's website, and writing instrumentation proposals to further enhance the capabilities of the Facility.
- Additional duties may include cross-training and assisting on other technology platforms as needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
- Previous experience in single crystal diffraction studies.
- Strong knowledge of chemical structure determination and refinement.
- Demonstrated collaborative efforts.
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance of x-ray diffraction equipment.
- Background in related x-ray diffraction methods.
- Background in basic programming and computer maintenance.
