The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Research Associate I position in Miami, Florida.
The incumbent will be contributing to the development and maintenance of hardware and software to operate equipment and distribute oceanographic data and products derived from XBTs and gliders. The incumbent will participate and/or lead the testing of the hardware and software on board of oceanographic or commercial ships and will participate in oceanographic research cruises to assist in the collection of XBT and glider data.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a M.S. degree or higher in engineering, computer science, environmental science/engineering or related fields. A background in digital circuits is required. Some experience is required in computer programming using one or more of the following languages: FORTRAN, C, C++, Java, Python, Matlab, or similar, in at least one high level computer environment (i.e., UNIX, LINUX, WINDOWS). He/She must be able to participate in research cruises and lead/participate in the installation and operations of instruments and software for XBT and glider data collection. The incumbent must have excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with a diverse group of people in large collaborative projects.
