Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking an experienced C++ application developer to fill a Senior Software Engineer position in support of the JMEM Weaponeering Software (JWS). JWS is an operational software application used by US Army, Navy, and Air Force operational communities to authenticate weapons effectiveness data for use in operations, training, systems acquisitions, weapons procurement, and combat modeling and simulation (M&S). Modern JWS development is built on the Endgame Framework (EF) architecture to allow scene-based simulation and display of single and multi-target engagements. EF is a cutting-edge software architecture that provides advanced development features to include reusable software modeling constructs, 3D geometric model interrogation and visualization, integrated Graphical User Interface (GUI) constructs, executive control across multiple processors, and a comprehensive set of M&S tools/utilities.

This position requires frequent customer interaction to include, but not limited to, stakeholder status updates, and classified and unclassified demos, and Technical Previews. Candidate will support the automation and reporting of project development risks, work status, and overall project health. The candidate will work closely with a team of Software Engineers and support team lead tasks such as goal setting, mentoring, task monitoring, and ensuring that contract deliverable deadlines are met. The ideal candidate will be very proficient using an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) such as Microsoft Visual Studio to efficiently troubleshoot and debug software.
JWS Senior Software Engineer Job duties include:
- Perform requirements analysis and develop software functional derived requirements.
- Prepare software documents and present status briefings to the customer.
- Coordination with other in-house developers and engineers to verify successful implementation.
- Utilize version control software such as GIT.
- Utilize application lifecycle management tool such as Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) and Atlassian tools for DevOps (Jira)
- Evaluate proposed software changes or additions and advise customer Integrated Product Team (IPT)
- Mentor less experienced software developers.
JWS Senior Software Engineer Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or related field.
- 7+ years of related experience
- US Citizen, able to receive and maintain DoD Security Clearance
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and demonstrate secure coding techniques.
- Must be able to ensure software is in compliance with DoD network security requirements.
JWS Senior Software Engineer Required Skills:
- Must have a strong knowledge of the C++ and C# programming languages.
- Must be able to work well within a team environment and able to adapt quickly to change.
- Good writing and verbal presentation skills
- Must be organized and deadline driven.
- Must be a team player.
- Must be able to communicate well in a positive manner.
Additional consideration for:
- Experience developing large C++/C# applications.
- Familiarity with thread-safe, event-driven, and object-oriented programming
- Experience using a build automation tool such as CMake and using a unit testing library such as Microsoft Unit Test Framework
- Proficient in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) such as Microsoft Visual Studio to efficiently troubleshoot and debug software.
- Good understanding of mathematical and physics concepts
- Understanding of 3D geometric modeling/visualization
- Understanding of weapons effects analysis
- A master’s degree
