Group Summary

The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets.

JOB SUMMARY:

Quality Engineering (QE) roles at Magna Engineered Glass (Magna) consist of 3 functional groups; Production, Launch, and Supplier development engineering. In each of these groups the QE will champion both internal (Magna) and external (OEM) costumer requirements. QEs support Production and Engineering teams by providing data collected via inspection, audit, and testing activities. QEs champion controlling documents and standards to achieve World Class Quality. QEs are required to work with cross functional teams in understanding the why made/ why shipped causation of issues through the implementation of the various problem-solving techniques. 

ESSENTIAL JOBDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with cross functional team in generating solutions to problems impacting key production metrics
• Communicate customer expectations effectively and clearly to ensure 100% customer satisfaction.
• Plan, execute, and oversee inspection and testing of manufactured products to ensure conformance with internal and external requirements.
• Analyze warranty return parts and components to understand were product or process improvements can be made to eliminate reoccurrence of issue.
• Collect and track customer issues to understand performance from the customer perspective.
• Maintain lessons learned to support future programs and facilitate continuous improvement.
• Audit product and process to ensure best practices and standards are being followed.

REQUIREMENTS:

Quality Engineer 1:

• Previous work experience as a Quality Technician, Quality Supervisor or similar role
• Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS)
• Ability to read and understand basic technical documentation
• High focus on detail
• Strong desire to understand and interpret numerical data
• Basic computer skills to access customer portals and websites
• 4 year degree or 3 years of hands on experience in a direct quality role
• Additional Quality certifications a plus
• Internal scrap review with Corrective actions
• Manage sorting (internal or third party) activities. Use data to drive corrective actions

Quality Engineer 2:

• All items listed for QE1 plus:
• Ability to create PFMEA/CP/JES in a cross functional setting with some help.
• Understands how to respond in customer portals to answer corrective actions
• Understand GDT and intent of design as it relates to print specifications.
• Working knowledge of PPAP process from cradle to grave for launch process
• Ability to create and interpret statistical data using Minitab software.
• Communicate effectively and clearly with both customer plants and supporting liaisons.
• With help be able to create 3 legged 5-why, 8D or other problem solving tool.
• Gage R&R’s

Quality Engineer 3:

• All items listed for QE1 and QE2 plus:
• Can lead corrective actions with little management involvement
• Master knowledge of problem solving- 3 legged 5 whys,8d 5P ect
• In-depth understanding of GDT- Can calculate dimensions from blueprint down to JES
• In-depth understanding (Internal auditor) for IATF16949
• Knows all parts of customer portals- Quality/Delivery/Warranty

CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Operational knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 requirements and how they are applied
• Operational knowledge of IATF 16949/ISO 9001 2015 requirements and how they are applied
• In depth understanding of internal and external customer requirements.
• Understand key influences to production metrics such as but not limited to First Pass Yield, Scrap, Process variation, and production yield.

PHYSICALDEMANDS:

• Ability to move around the manufacturing facility, including standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, to conduct inspections, audits, and meetings.
• Proficiency in manipulating small parts and operating testing equipment, demonstrating good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Strong vision, including close-up and color vision, for reading technical documentation, inspecting parts, and interpreting data accurately.
• High level of attention to detail to identify defects, analyze data, and ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
