ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Project Executive/Senior Environmental Planner | Hybrid | Hauppauge, NY
The successful candidate will have the ability to lead complex real estate, institutional and/or local governmental projects, and implement strategies for all aspects of planning work while working collaboratively with a team of planners, engineers, and scientists. The Senior Project Executive/Senior Environmental Planner will also be responsible for the development of new business opportunities, client management, project management, staff management, and serving as a thought leader and strategic advisor to clients.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead clients through the administration of State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) processes
- Prepare and review SEQRA and NEPA documentation such as environmental impact statements and assessments, planning and zoning studies, wetlands and coastal permits, visual impact analyses and related technical studies
- Provides proactive guidance and efficient resource management
- Establish and monitor budgets to assess profitability
- Perform project reviews and quality control audits to measure the quality level of the project deliverables to industry standard specifications and zoning/regulatory requirements
- Make presentations before municipal boards
- Participate and lead the generation of new business development opportunities
- Provide oversight, direction, management, mentoring and ongoing open communication to staff
- Act as a senior advisor, supporting clients and staff with complex project challenges
- Perform all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures
- Represent VHB at conferences, seminars, and Industry organizations and events.
Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local regulations and agencies, including SEQRA, and NEPA
- Advanced knowledge in innovative planning initiatives (e.g., smart growth, new urbanism, sustainability) and technical environmental impact analysis methods
- Superb technical, organizational, and critical thinking skills
- Extensive experience in the development of comprehensive plans, land development codes, community facilities and capital improvement plans; the formulation of community master plans; the collaboration with and understanding of other disciplines that influence community design and design thinking; and providing testimony before municipal boards
- Track record of generating new business development opportunities and preparing winning proposals
- Advanced skills and knowledge in project and client management and collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
- Highly motivated self-starter with interest in growing the environmental planning practice on Long Island and throughout the region.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of planning, consulting, management, business development, and compliance experience
- BA in Planning or related area of study relevant to specialization (e.g., Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Urban Design/Studies, Regional Planning, Sustainability Planning, Economics, Aviation, Civil Engineering, Urban Transportation Planning)
- Experience with federal, state, and local regulations and agencies, including SEQRA, and NEPA required
- Master’s degree is a plus
- Professional planning certification preferred (i.e., American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure - Envision (ENV SP) certification.
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $150,000-180,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
