Multiple exciting opportunities are available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates, an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking Project Managers and Project Engineers in our Transportation Division to join our growing team based in Vernon Hills, Illinois. These are full-time exempt-level positions in a collaborative environment with a comprehensive benefits program.
These positions will focus on transforming and growing our Phase I Studies and Preliminary Engineering practice and will report to the Division Director. Performing engineering designs, reports, studies, and project management tasks for a variety of roadway and highway improvement projects for Local, County, State, and Tollway agencies.
How you will make an impact:
- Manage Federal Aid and Local Phase I Studies and Project Development Reports and other transportation related designs and studies for a variety of clients including Local, County, and State projects.
- Lead a variety transportation designs, studies, and reports for roadway/highway rehabilitation or reconstruction, intersections, traffic signals, pedestrian and bike facilities, and associated infrastructure improvements. Such work may include coordination and assistance to other company divisions including Municipal, Water Resources, Data, Survey, and Construction Divisions.
- Leadership role to fully manage all contractual responsibilities of assigned projects with our clients.
- Client management and team coordination with other engineers, technicians, and other design professionals as necessary to perform work and strengthen client relationships.
- Preparing and monitoring project scheduling and project budgets.
- Overseeing preparation of technical reports and studies.
- Attendance at public meetings and public hearings as necessary.
- Coordination and compliance with regulatory agencies and securing various approvals from multiple agencies.
- Leadership skills, mentoring and team member oversight to foster the team’s growth.
- Preparation of proposals which include scope, schedules, and budgets.
- Comply with Division’s Quality Management Plan.
What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois.
- Valid US driver’s license registered insured personal vehicle.
Experience:
- Project Managers and Senior Project Managers - 12+ years of direct civil engineering design experience and at least 8+ years as a major contributor or a project leader on complex transportation projects requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
- Project Engineers – 5+ years of direct civil engineering design experience on transportation projects.
- High level of proficiency in complex designs.
- Experience with Microstation/Geopak and/or AutoCAD.
- IDOT standards and procedures specifically as it relates to Federal Aid and Local Phase I process, including preparing NEPA transportation-related Categorical Exclusion, Environmental Assessment, Environmental Impact Statement, or PEL documents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience making public presentations.
- Ability to work independently and manage projects as part of a larger team.
- Self-starting, detail-oriented individual, with organizational and interpersonal skills.
- A solid work ethic with the desire to assist with staff development.
- The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Efficient self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
