About the Employer
The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County's most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Department staff are working to achieve this goal in collaboration with educators at all levels of student development, from early childhood through higher education, and in partnership with families, businesses and community organizations.
Job Summary
The Orange County Department of Education's Fiscal Services Unit includes Budget, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll. Fiscal Services is also responsible for the Department's General Ledger and acts as a liaison with our external auditors for the preparation of the Annual Financial Report. OCDE is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Senior Project Accountant to serve in the Administrative Services Division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for difficult and high-level budgeting analyses in providing fiscal support for categorical and restricted programs. The duties of this position include: understanding, interpreting, explaining and applying varied and diverse federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to special programs and financial record-keeping and reporting to administrators, program coordinators, vendors and others. This position will provide lead work direction and guidance to other Project Accountants. Assignments require the use of independent judgment on complex issues, interpretive and evaluative.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or with major coursework in accounting or a related field. • Five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting with at least two (2) years involved in project or accounting based auditing. • Experience in a public agency or educational institution is preferred.
