Position Summary:
Responsible for interfacing directly with end-users and vendors to assess, recommend, design, and implement network solutions and new technologies. Manages the development and maintenance of network design standards. Evaluates and recommends new technologies as they relate to the businesses network strategy. Provides technical leadership and guidance to less experienced team members. Continually enhances departmental knowledge and skills.
Essential Functions:
- Manages and implements, local, metropolitan, and wide area networks. Supports department staff in configuring and maintaining routers, switches, CSU/DSUs, and other network devices
- Actively builds and maintains relationships with user community and vendors in order to understand business needs and requirements related to the design of new networking technologies.
- Supports department staff in the analysis, solution, and documentation of network issues and problems. Analyzes and resolves issues escalated by less experienced team members.
- Coaches, mentors, and provides feedback to less experienced team members regarding departmental procedures, policies, and standards that pertain to the Network Engineering department.
- Solicits feedback and guidance of department best practices from management
- Continually enhances knowledge of Network Engineering and company standards in order to achieve departmental success and professional growth.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent technical experience.
Licenses/Certification:
- Cisco CCNA required, CCNP or CCIE preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years experience as a Network Engineer in a large-scale inter-network environment with proven complex network design experience.
Approximate percent of time required to travel: 10%
