ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a strategic and dynamic leader to establish the vision, content and documentation strategy, drive key decisions and work at the intersection of Product Development, Engineering, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support to lead GILLIG's Technical Publications department. You will be responsible for leading a team of 14 individuals to develop and deliver owners' manuals, service materials, training content (internal and external) , and technical product literature for customers and internal users. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to identify opportunities to enhance GILLIG's technical content strategy, then set up the infrastructure and resource base to execute.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Lead the development and implementation of our evolving Technical Publications strategy to meet organizational goals while ensuring customer satisfaction and industry standards are attained and maintained
- Manage a team of remote publications professionals in the preparation and distribution of technical manuals & content, including data analysis, source content acquisition and review, master content creation, and custom manual generation, assembly, and distribution
- Lead the technical writing team responsible for partnering with the Service, Engineering teams, and other internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain clear, concise, and effective documentation, including Owners Manuals, Service and Repair methods, Technical Bulletins, program release notes, training materials, and more
- Supervise effective day to day working of team members to ensure production goals and quality standards are met
- Innovate and refine documentation processes, and develop best practices in information architecture, style, and taxonomy, including use of automation and advanced systems
- Promote efficiency and usability using a clear content strategy that defines the types and structure of content, as well as optimal workflow and continued maintenance
- Perform audits on completed manuals to ensure quality and accuracy
- Work closely with engineering project teams, support teams, product management, and other stakeholders to address content gaps, create high-quality documentation, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience for internal and external customers
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Publishing or related field
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in Technical Publications preparation and management with an emphasis in the preparation of technical manuals and written content for highly customized equipment (Automotive, Commercial Vehicle, Aerospace, or similar strongly preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of technical content creation processes (e.g., structured content management) and software solutions (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Siemens Teamcenter experience preferred)
- Proven experience leading a team in the development of technical writing to support new product development and product support
- Excellent leadership , communication , and project management skills
- In-depth knowledge of Technical Publications operations, technologies, and department management are required
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams and influence their workflow to ensure required inputs are received as necessary
- Work well under pressure while managing multiple deadlines, maintain accuracy, attention to detail and thrive in a rapidly changing environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, and walk, and occasionally kneel or squat
- Fast paced work environment
- Standard start time between 6AM – 7AM (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
