NATURE OF POSITION
This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all employees, customers, and passengers through the direction, oversight, development and implementation of the Agency's safety and security program. This position develops, manage, and implements the Agency's compliance, technical, and soft skills training program.
- Manage the development, administration, and implementation of Safety, security and emergency management programs using components established in Federal Transit Administrations Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan and other relevant governing regulations and best practices.
- Coach and mentor training staff in the effective delivery of training material to their audiences; attend classes, evaluate delivery, and provide feedback regarding the effectiveness of training sessions.
- Supervise the work of assigned personnel, including assigning, reviewing, and provide guidance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with outside agencies to coordinate responses to safety and security trends and incidents. Respond to request for any safety or security related videos.
- Monitor safety and security compliance; identify opportunities for improvements and/or efficiencies.
- Oversee vehicle accident investigation process; ensure proper accident investigation procedures are followed; review accident reports and recommends corrective action.
- Represent Agency at government agencies, boards, commissions, and conferences.
- May participate on the planning committee for the local and regional annual Washington State Bus Roadeo.
- Evaluate training materials and curriculum for compliance.
- Work with and maintain confidential information.
- Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Business/Management of Safety, Criminal Justice, or Security Management or related field from an accredited institution and four-years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Must possess a valid driver's license.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Obtain and maintain the following licenses and certifications for continued employment at BFT:
- First Aid and CPR certification; or ability to obtain within 180-days of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of experience in security and safety related investigations.
- Understand and apply Federal, State, and local laws, rules, codes, and regulations related to assigned activities.
- Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), OSHA, Washington State Transit Insurance Pool (WSTIP), and Washington State Transit Association (WSTA) rules and requirements.
- Understand and apply risk management strategies, includes security prevention and protection, liability claims, and worker's compensation.
- Principles and practices of comprehensive transit system safety programs including safety training, environmental health and safety, and accident investigation.
- React quickly and calmly in emergency situations and adopt an effective course of action.
- Write clear, concise reports and documentation.
