At the Port of Seattle, we anticipate making salary offers between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. Offers will be based on experience similar to the Port job being applied for as well as a review of pay rates for Port employees performing similar work. Salary ranges are under review and subject to change. 

Some of what you'll be doing:

Applications will be reviewed regularly, and interviews may be conducted prior to the application close date. 

In this role, you will develop, lead, and manage the mechanical and electrical engineering design staff that provide “in-house” engineering and Design Services for capital projects and facility ownership.

  • You will direct, oversee, and manage all aspects of engineering Design Services within Engineering’s Mechanical and Electrical Design team.
  • You will mentor, coach, and hire as needed for a team of talented engineers that are a highly motivated team, capable of providing quality in-house design projects. 
  • You will oversee the team’s project design development and drawing preparation supporting capital and expense projects in the aviation and maritime industries, collaborating across disciplines and stakeholders.
  • You will oversee project specification preparation and technical report writing, field inspections, and testing for your team. 
  • You will serve as a senior level technical expert and advisor at the Port for infrastructure ownership. You will impact regional infrastructure through system evaluation and planning as well as complex capital development programs/projects, ensuring public safety, increasing climate sustainability, and having significant economic importance for the Port.
  • You will function as a technical representative of the Port of Seattle for the marine and aviation industry, serving on technical/professional committees.
  • You will collaborate on Port contract procurement processes, including project types such as small works and major construction, contract delivery methods such as design/bid/build, design/build, and general contractor construction manager (GCCM).
  • You will implement Port policies, procedures, and resources for corporate and divisional support such as Information and Communication Technology, Legal, Accounting, Purchasing, Labor Relations, Human Resources and Project Management services.
  • You will prepare and manage budgets, schedules, and staff resources for the Mechanical and Electrical Design team.

Who you are:

 

  • Experienced – You have ten (10) years of experience in design and construction; at least five years of which were in a leadership, supervisory, and/or management capacity. Your experience may be focused in either mechanical or electrical disciplines and need not be of equal depth in both. You will be required to obtain National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 300 400 and 700 training within one (1) year of hire date.
  • Educated – You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field. You are also a licensed Professional Mechanical or Electrical Engineer in the State of Washington. 
  • Desired – We hope you have a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and are NIMS trained.

  • Adaptable – You have the ability to think quickly and critically, analyze issues and present innovative solutions to problems.

What else you need to know: 

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. 
  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
  • Grade Review – The pay range and grade for non-represented positions are under review and subject to change as part of the Port’s work to implement a new pay program. This review is intended to ensure that positions are aligned with the new program that will be implemented in early 2024.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
  • Security Requirements – You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
