The Team

The vision of Global Financial & Accounting Services (GFAS) is to provide innovative and scalable global business solutions in accounting, tax, payroll, treasury, procurement, and financial operations while safeguarding the reputation of the foundation and our related entities, with the highest standards of integrity and operational excellence.
GFAS is a division within the Finance organization at the foundation and an important part of the operations function. Operations supports and enables the six program teams to make investments and to run effectively and efficiently. As a function, Finance employs approximately 100 FTE’s. The GFAS division is significant (40+ FTE’s), and responsible for financial reporting processes, technical and advisory services, internal controls, vendor due diligence and the accounting functions at the foundation.
  • This role will post through January 19.

Your Role

As a seasoned professional in finance and operations management, the Sr. Manager Global Payments will play a pivotal role in leading the strategic oversight of Global Payments totaling over $9 billion to over 150+ countries worldwide, while simultaneously leading a credit card program of appx. 2,000 cards, all with a commitment to delivering on customer, grantee, participant centric solutions that enhance user experience and satisfaction.

This position requires a comprehensive understanding of financial regulations, a track record of successful payment operations management and customer focused in diverse global organizations, and the ability to shape significant third-party service delivery relationships on a multinational scale. The Sr. Manager Global Payments will be responsible for crafting and driving scalable, sustainable solutions while partnering cross-functionally to optimize payment services globally. With a focus on business analysis, process redesign, and technology leadership, the successful candidate will lead an impactful team, champion a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong project management skills, exceptional communication abilities, and the capacity to navigate global process standards while tailoring solutions to local implementation needs, including supporting our regional offices and affiliates.

What You’ll Do

The Sr. Manager, Global Payments is responsible for the following:

  • Business Operations (~30% of time)

    • Accountable for strategically defining and leading Global Payments processes, systems, and technologies, emphasizing a comprehensive approach that includes credit card expense, participant reimbursement and accounts payable programs.

    • Collaborate cross-functionally to be responsible for Global Payments operations, ensuring a smooth, timely, and accurate delivery of services on a global scale, with a particular focus on credit card expenses and accounts payable.

    • Leverage influence to drive ongoing process improvements and risk tolerance levels with in Global Payments, working closely with process owners, key partners, and managers across diverse geographies.

    • Develop strategic partnerships across operations teams including, travel, events, security, etc. management, and internal counterparts, ensuring an excellent delivery of Global Payments services, including credit card expense programs and accounts payable.

    • Responsible for Global Payments policies and internal controls.

  • Business Projects (~20% of time)

    • Provide strategic leadership as a Senior Manager of Global Payments for business projects, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of credit card expenses, participant expenditures, and accounts payable. Orchestrate project planning, defining clear scopes, deadlines, costs, and resource requirements to drive successful project outcomes.

    • Bring in-depth subject matter expertise to the forefront of business projects related to Global Payments. Actively give insights and guidance on credit card expenses, participant expenditures, and accounts payable, ensuring that the projects align with best practices and industry standards.

    • Collaborate across functions and teams to ensure the seamless integration of credit card, participant expenses, and accounts payable elements into business projects. Develop strong partnerships with internal and external partners, applying your expertise to drive project success and enhance the overall efficiency of global payment processes.

  • Management & Governance(~40% of time)

    • Accountable for Global Payments Team performance, emphasizing staff development of 7 FTE. Cultivate a collaborative culture, ensuring continuous improvement aligned with Foundation values.

    • Collaborate with GFAS colleagues to broaden cross-training in Global Payments. Prioritize staff development to strengthen skills and adaptability.

    • Lead Global Payments staff and vendor relationships collaboratively. Emphasize staff development for team success.

    • Grow and develop Global Payments team through engaging conversations and timely feedback. Prioritize ongoing staff development for a skilled workforce.

    • Hold a key decision-making role within Global Payments, aligning choices with organizational objectives and fostering team professional growth.

  • Regulatory/Compliance/Controls(~10% of time)

    • Ensure regulatory and compliance within the Global Payments team, (including but not limited to: GAAP, IRS, state filing requirements, global regulatory requirements, etc.)

This position works in a highly matrixed environment and works closely with the following collaborators:

  • Internally: Ability to work within own division (GFAS) as well as customers/colleagues in other divisions such as Security, Travel, Events, IT, HR, Benefits, Grants and Contracts Services, Legal, and affiliated entities

  • Externally: Ability to network and share standard methodologies with other peer organizations. Work closely with external vendors and partners.

  • Dedication to staff development, demonstrated through coaching, feedback, and creating opportunities for professional growth.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Experience in the following areas:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive global payment strategy and process optimization.

  • Design and implementation of COUPA and partnering with Strategic Sourcing & Procurement (“SS&P”) on shared initiatives.

  • Experience with global roll-out of travel, event, declining balance, and p-card program setup

  • Analyzing and performing end-to-end process reviews with third parties and implementation a strategy and roadmap for future automation

  • Actively manage relationships with payment processors, banking, and software providers

  • Drafting reports and presentations that align with audience needs.

  • Create and monitor key performance indicators and implement measures to proactively address emerging risks.

  • Previous experience with Foundation financial processes and procedures preferred.

  • Working with multinationals and global time zones.

  • Marinating up-to-date knowledge of payment industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.

  • Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

The salary range for this role is $166,300 to $249,500 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences where our offices are located, in Seattle, Washington D.C., and Boston (Cambridge). The range for this role in these locations is $181,200 to $271,800 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission and new hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary range between the minimum and the midpoint salary range. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
