Job description

Bright Horizons College Coach has been assisting families in achieving their education goals for more than 20 years. With a strong service mission, commitment to excellence, and focus on ethical guidance, we work with tens of thousands of families who receive our services for free through their employer-sponsored benefit and hundreds more via our more traditional independent consulting service. In both cases, we interact directly with students and parents in person, over the phone, and via video conference. We have a clear vision at Bright Horizons: to be the place where a diverse, talented mix of people can come together to do their best work. We are intentional about diversity and inclusion, embracing the individuality of each student, family member, and employee. Join us to do important work at a company named 20 times as one of FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

As a Senior Manager of Educational Counseling, you will guide our clients through the college admissions process, helping students present and maximize their unique strengths, accomplishments, and potential in a student-focused and ethical way. As we grow in 2024, we continue to prioritize the diversification of our team, a goal that comes from the top down thanks to our Bright Horizons leaders who have been vocal supporters of social justice and equity movements. At the heart of Bright Horizons College Coach is a phenomenal group of knowledgeable, hardworking, team-oriented educators with experience at a wide range of undergraduate institutions. Our team is made up of former admissions and financial aid officers who are dedicated to supporting every kind of student as they seek their best-fit colleges. Flexibility plays a key role at Bright Horizons College Coach, not just in our interactions with our clients and one another, but in the way we do our jobs on a day-to-day basis. We work remotely and respect one another’s ability to do high-quality work from home—yet we also share in a deep sense of community and camaraderie. We engage with one another on a daily basis and are a tight-knit crew that loves to laugh together as much as we love to work together. If you enjoy the independence of remote work yet enjoy the human connection of being in an office, we think you’ll appreciate the balance we strike.

What you will be doing:

  • Support students and families through all aspects of the college admission process, including managing expectations and goals

  • Contribute to College Coach’s growth, employee satisfaction, and inclusive environment

  • Work with one Bright Horizons Scholar annually, providing pro bono support to an under-resourced student through one of our community partnerships

  • Build on your admission experience to work with a diverse group of students and parents at various socioeconomic levels and help them successfully navigate the education system

  • Present on a full spectrum of educational topics, such as admission to four-year colleges, guidance for STEM applicants, and admissions basics for families new to the process

  • Collaborate with an experienced and engaged team of admissions and college finance experts to maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field

  • Work a flexible schedule, including some evening or weekend appointments

What we hope you will bring to this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • 2 plus years of experience in selective college admissions required; college counseling experience preferred

  • Availability to start mid-June 2024

  • Passion for higher education and a commitment to increasing education access for a broad constituency of students

  • The ability to reach all audiences and meet families where they are in the process

  • A high degree of integrity, creativity, and strategic thinking, plus great time management and a willingness to embrace flexibility

  • Confident presence, strong relationship building skills, and a professional manner

  • Strong editing and writing ability coupled with attention to detail, excellent organizational skills

  • Superior presentation skills in both large group and individual settings

  • Interest in working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Great time management and organization abilities

  • Comfort level with technology, including Microsoft Office and internet research
