Assist the Director of Corporate Tax, Audits and Indirect Tax to manage federal and state tax controversy, collaborate with team members and outside tax advisors, and assist with ad-hoc requests to support the business.
What you have- Bachelor's in Accounting or equivalent required. Masters of Tax/Accounting/CPA strongly preferred.
- 7+ years tax experience in a public accounting firm or Corporate Tax department with 3-5 years tax controversy specific experience strongly preferred
- Substantial experience with multi-state income tax controversy matters. Knowledge of State indirect taxes
- Experience interacting effectively and efficiently with external tax advisors and ability to collaborate across business partners
- Experience with PeopleSoft or equivalent G/L system strongly preferred
- Strong analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid Excel working knowledge
- Must be self-sufficient, a team player, and work well in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
What you'll do
Assist the Director of Corporate Tax, Audits and Indirect Tax to comply with all Federal and State income tax and indirect tax controversy work as well as certain State and Local indirect tax matters.
Key responsibilities include performance of or assistance with:
- Manage Federal and State/Local income tax audits and inquiries by governmental authorities. Work directly with outside tax advisors on technical issues. Maintain knowledge of tax legislation and tax changes as it relates to ongoing audits and tax planning related to audits
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and taxing authorities on controversy work, timely communication of significant examination developments to ensure proper company compliance
- Conduct research of tax laws, regulations and case law to resolve audited related tax issues and support return positions
- Identify opportunities to improve and/or automate tax processes to improve efficiencies and controls
- Assist with identifying and executing tax planning related to tax savings and tax audits
- Develop and execute periodic reporting for senior management review
- As needed, support the State and Local Indirect Tax function, including compliance, audits/controversies, personal property tax and similar tax types. Coordination of indirect tax calendar due dates with team members to ensure timely completion of filings
