At United, we fly into airports around the entire world. And we need a whole team of people to keep things running in tip-top shape! From the exceptional service at the check-in counter to the departure gate, and even behind the scenes making sure your checked bags arrive with you, our Airport Operations team keeps operations at our airports running smoothly every single day.
The salary for this position is $80,020.00 - $117,370.00dependent on job-related, equal opportunity factors such as experience, education, and skills. This range is based on a full-time schedule.

Key Responsibilities:
The Below the Wing business leader is responsible for the overall financial, personnel and operational related functions of the department which operates more than 100 consolidated flights per day and employs over 730 Ramp Service employees and 28 Leadership team members. Possess in-depth knowledge of Airport Operations, airport management, logistics, technology and financial planning and administration. Also has a proven track record for decisive actions backed by analytical thinking, goal directed leadership and performance. An experienced leader in deploying technology to enhance customer service, improve efficiency and support strategic business objectives and is a tried in developing, motivating, and leading people. Also responsible for the overall financial budget.
  • Develop and monitor all functions of related station activity within budgetary constraints and with an emphasis on safety, productivity, and all performance related metrics
  • High level of focus on established departmental safety expectations to minimize, reduce and prevent employee injury and/or aircraft damage, partner with Ground Safety
  • Lead, direct, and monitor station organization to ensure superior customer service
  • Strategically plan the long-term development of the department and its personnel
  • Provide quality control in all areas of responsibility, to include facilities, equipment, and personnel appearance
  • Establish accountability measures that sustain standardized work practices and continuous improvement strategies
  • Provides leadership and support to the department Leaders who have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation
  • Active involvement working with local airport community and government agencies (Airport Authority, other airlines, FAA, TSA)
  • Collaborate with local Union leadership to ensure fair and correct administration of collective bargaining agreements, maintaining on-going positive relationships

The organizational responsibilities include:
  • All domestic and international ramp operations for the hub
  • All aspects of the baggage operation; including originating, online connecting as well as interline connecting for entire consolidated daily operation
  • Baggage delivery metrics/TCI
  • Overall departmental GSE
  • Overall departmental administration
  • Overall departmental Training
  • Overall departmental Safety
  • Overall facility upkeep

Responsibilities
  • Improve operational performance, lead all aspects of financial controls and all ramp safety
  • Operational planning and safe implementation of all ramp activities
  • Strategically plan the long-term development of department operations
  • Business/Employee relationship development
  • Working with department heads and peers
  • Management and frontline employee interaction and development

Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum 3-5 years leadership experience in an operations environment
  • Excellent social skills, including written and presentation
  • Ability to direct and develop management team, as well as ability to engage frontline employee population
  • Ability to lead and sustain continuous improvement environment and initiatives
  • Intuition for business
  • Ability to promote a safe working environment
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in a fast-paced environment and leading a large-scale organization
  • Responsible for a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation required
  • Must have the ability to work weekends and be available at all hours as needed
  • Successful candidate must be able to clear a criminal history check to obtain and retain credentials necessary for position required
  • Specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA / TSA / Airport Authority / US Customs
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position

  • Bachelor's degree or related field experience of 3 - 5 years of managerial experience in airlines operational environment preferred
  • Union Relations background
