Senior Make Ready Engineer

This is a management level position, working with Designers, Engineers, GIS, and other support staff and reporting directly to the Director of Engineering. Aerial Leads are expected to manage multiple markets from a technical aspect and to work directly with the pole owner as the point of contact. The Aerial Lead position will be responsible for managing a staff of up to 10 designers and drafters and be responsible for production metrics and financial reporting. This position requires subject matter expertise in pole loading analysis and Make Ready Engineering.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

• Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
• Professional Engineering license is preferred but not required.
• Minimum 4 Year(s) Experience in Make Ready or power distribution aerial design.
• Minimum 1 Year experience managing design/fielding staff
• Minimum of 2 years with O-Calc Pro, PLS-CADD, Pole Foreman or Spida-Calc is required.
• Subject matter expert on pole loading analysis software
• Subject matter expert on pole fielding and surveying practices
• Familiarity with AutoCAD
• Familiarity with pole collection software such as IKE or Katapult
• Experience managing project budgets is preferred but not required.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Report directly to the Director of Engineering for the reporting of production, metrics, and financial metrics of the Aerial design staff.
• Manage an Engineering/Drafter team of up to 10 members.
• Work directly with the Project Manager for FTTH work and MRE designs.
• Work directly with the Permitting Team for updates and submittals.
• Create and develop the scopes of work required by pole owners and power utilities for design and pole loading analysis.
• Establish relationships with Pole Owners and Power Utilities and be the point of contact for questions and deliverables with the Agency.
• Be a subject matter expert in aerial design and fielding practices.
• Manage subcontractors’ schedules for fielding and design deliverables.
• Have an in-depth knowledge of the Contract documents and Pole Attachment agreements.
• Have an in-depth understanding of pole loading design standards.
• Have an in-depth knowledge of Structural Engineering principles and practices as it relates to finite element analysis for pole loading.
• Have an in-depth understanding of NESC 2023 code requirements.
• Have a fundamental understanding of Telecom OSP Engineering and Construction standards.
• Experience with IKE or Katapult is required.
• This role will include troubleshooting and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction related issues across several markets simultaneously.
• Perform Quality Control and Assurance on designs prior to submittal.
• This position requires tracking of submittals and schedules in combination with our existing permitting team.
• Create and maintain standards for design.
• Oversee drawings using ArcGIS, AutoCAD or other electronic drawing packages as required. AutoCAD drafting will be minimal in this position.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
